Farm Safety Council Poster Competition The Ontario County Farm Safety Council is again spon- soring a Farm and Home Safety Poster Competition. This is the tenth year for this competition, and it has been highly successful. Last year. 440 boys and girls from 20 rural schools in Ontario County took part. Prize money paid out amounted to about $200.00. Prizes will be awarded on a Township basis, and the competition 'is open to grades 5 to 8 in all rural schools in the County. Posters must not be copies of existing safety posters, and must be made on standard art class paper, and should not be larger than 14" by 20". The type and time of day -~in-which- spraying for weed control is carried out de- - termines, to a great extent, how effective any one par- ticular chemical will be. A very hot day will tend to allow the chemical to burn the crop more readily than a cool day. Spraying done after a good rain when the weeds are growing rapidly will give a better kill of weeds than during a dry spell when growth is slow. He quoted Dr, D. Harold « Copp, President of the Nat- ional Cancer Institute of Canada which administers the research funds made available by the Society, who said that the record-number of appli ations from young brilliant scientists for research grants continues to mount but there is just not enough money, This year the Canadian Cancer Society campaign people and the public at large are faced Vie & with the greatest challenge - yet - only through their support will a cure for cancer be found. id SAVE dc!
