Twelve rinks competed includ- ing players from Bowmanville and Port Perry Clubs in addit- ion to the Blackstock mem- bers. The ice was keen and in good condition which along with good fellowship and keen competition contributed to a fine day for all. Tribute was paid to caretaker, Rick Thompson, who with the assistance of cold, winter weather, has produced excel- lent ice throughout the season thus far. . The Bonspiel Trophy, was presented by Schedule Mana- ger, Harvey Graham, was won by Merlin Suggitt's rink com- prised of Gerald Kelly, Bill Ferguson and Gerritt Brink- man. Second prize winner was Jim Jamieson's rink, Ernie Swain, Jim Gray and Harvey Lloyd. ] "Club President, Jim Jamie- son presented the Consolation Prizes to 1st - Neil Malcolm, Ivan Thompson, Harold Kyte, and Bob Perry. Second con- Ice Fishing Good On Lake Simcoe - Favorable weather condit- ions during the past several weeks have allowed hundreds of fish huts to be placed on Lake Simcoe to provideshelter and comfort to ice fishermen. Huts range in size from a 4' x 4' small one-man structure to a large 12' x 14' building equipped with many of the comforts of home. All in all they serve the same purpose; to make ice fishing a comfort- able winter pastime. Local fishermen and com- mercial fish hut operators report that fishermen can look forward to a promising fish- ing season. Lake trout and whitefish seem to be in a good supply along with her- ring, perch and smelt. The ice conditions are good due to cold weather and the lake of snow on the lake. Ice thickness varies from 18* near the shore to 14" farther out. Anglers are reminded that all fish huts must be registered and the registration number must be on the hut, If the {| angler is a male and over 19 years of age he must have his 1970 angling license.
