Lake Simcoe Ice Fishing Not Banned The Maple District Office and other offices of the Ont- ario Department of Lands and Forests have received many enquiries from the public regarding the status of the fishing on Lake Simcoe this winter. The Department feels it should clarify its position and also attempt to quash the erroneous currently being circulated to the effect that the Lake will be closed to ice fishing. The concern of the public and the fumours no doubt started because of the publicity being given to pollution and in part- fcular to use of various pesti- cides. Fish from the Simcoe and other lakes have been sampled for any ill effects resulting from pesticides being washed into the water. To date no fish from Lake Simcoe have been found to be unfit for human consumption. If at any future date the level of contamination in fish is found to be at a dangerous level, the public will be in- formed accordingly. In' the meantime, get your gear ship- shape and ready for another 'enjoyable winter of ice fish- ing at Lake Simcoe.
