Is Obedience In? " "Continued Admittedly he may delegate - authority but the responsi- bility is his. That we have forgotten this concept is seen in the expression used by some, "A Child-Dominated Society". It is also' seen in that women's fight for equal ity includes in many cases a certain fight for domination and the fact that many homes are dominated by the wives and moth:rs, The biblical: principle of discipline is seen in the com- mandment, Honour Thy Fatherand thy Mother , that thy days be long in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Exodus 20:12. It is further seen in the new testament in Ephesians 6:1-4, and Colossians 3:20,21 * which reads Children, obey your parents in all things: For 'this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Fathers provoke not your children to wrath, lest they be discouraged. This principle, which also has its parallel for husbands and wives to follow, is not being observed today. Child- ren are growing up with little respect for parents who have given and given while never ; enforcing demands. I like Ann Lander's statement that par- ents have rightstoo but like any other rights they will be lost if not exercised.. s Another principle that is involved in this same discuss- ion is the principle if obed- ience to authority outside the home. "Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, and to be ready to give good work." Paul tells his disciple Titus in Titus 3:1. "Obey them that have the rule over you..." Hebrews - 13:17. These principles are not given to us in an effort to be oppressive. Instead they are God s wise guides to happiness in society where the actions of one affect us all. git "prices. is FAST. JESSE Rat ini sith nina nnn ihcanaasasanan i KEN P. YES! For wherever men love justice and truth 'and freedom there must be a place where obed- ience is a cardinal virtue, PRR The Editor, Port Perry Star, Port Perry, Ontario. Dear Sir: During the previous two issues of your valuable paper, you have generously published several letters of protest lowe'en fracas and destruct ion done in the Port Perry Business Section, and, while agreeing with all the protests, the one in my humble opinio which hits the nail square on the head is by Pat Lane. This lady, without any doubt, has presented the root of the trouble in forceful words, which should make all who read it do some real heart- searching. I have resided here 61 years, and while there has always been a little innocent fun, I have never witnessed anything comparable to the wild unrestrained Hallowe'en of 1969. So may I say to Mrs. Lane, a sincere "Thank You Pat" for your forthright approach to the question - "Why" about some of our young people, for you have surely given the answer. May God Bless you for your courage and perception is my prayer. regarding the. maniacal Hal- ---R.B. Smallman we respect his freedom and the laws which guard his free- dom as our own. And this the bible has always taught. It is we who haven't listened. Today our young people protest that we are hypocrites. Surely if we are it is because adults often have been guilty of the same lack of respect for- law and order which we now decry in our youth. There . is yet one more principle that is involved and which transcends and lends force to all the others. It is that, in the final analysis all obedience is one the basis of obedience to God and every transgression of human authority is ultim- ately a rebellion against the laws of God. : "Let every soul be subject' unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: The powers that be are ordain- ed of God." Romans 12:1. Conclusion: Is Obedience 'IN' ? NO! It is not 'IN'to be obedient to parents...to the laws of our land and their officers of en- forcement.,.to God. But let no one doubt that we fail to do so at our peril. and that our society is show- ing the effects of our refusal to consider the principles which God has set down.
