Mr, John MacTaggart (Jack to us) died on Friday in Oshawa - hospital from. complications following surgery. He was a veteran of World War I who never entirely recovered from his experiences in France but always maintain- ed a friendly cheerful man: ner and had a host of friends The funeral was held on Monday with - interment at McNeil cemetery Wick. Our whole community extends sympathy to his wife Jean, his brother Dan and other 'relatives. Last Wednesday - evening, 67 Brownies, Guides, moth. ers and grandmothers at tended their annual banquet in the church basement. Vi- sitors, and especially the grandmothers were much im- pressed with. it all. Guest speaker was Mrs. Nodwell who talked of "Seagrave in Olden Times", a subject which interests her greatly. Bonnie Short was awarded a Guide pin as winner of the essay contest. Roy Scott did it again, His luck held when he attended ~ the organ club concert in Whitby on Tuesday. In the lucky draw he became the _ owner of a fine electric or- gan, Congratulations. The Y.P. concert and slave -mour of Toronto, was rather disappointing to them as regards attendance but they had a good program and realized a tidy sum from the' sale of their services. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs, Don Hunter attended the marriage of the daughter of Rev. Geo. Davison, minister of Melville United * Church which they formerly attend- ed. This was a different wedding - all the congrega- tion, old and young, plus some old-timers were invited guests at both the ceremony and the reception. Calamity corner now seems to be at the junction of the new road and the old, north of the village (McNeil's cor- ner). The third accident there in about as many weeks took place on Sat. evening when young Wayne Kennedy crossing on a bicycle was hit by a motorist. : He was rush- ed to hospital but is not thought to be seriously in- jured. «Mr. and Mrs. Ken Lutteral and- family are at present with her parents, Rev.
