On Wednes- day evening there was a shower at th Coxworth in Markham, The Perry[ with fellow-workers & friends present. Our "big Short affair was big. but not short by any measure. There couldn't have been fewer than 100 persons on hand including quite a number of Twiner relatives and friends from Markham. M. C. Morley Bruce conducted the variety program. First came the sing-song and a special en- titled "Cruising down Nonquon" rendered by all the Shorts. Four of our pro- minent-gentlemen, tried des- cribing their wives costumes: (the wives were hidden). Jack Short was the winner. He hasn't been married long enough to have lost interest. Mr. and Mrs. Dave John- ston and sons of Bethany visited Mr. and Mrs. J. C. MacTaggart on Sunday. On Thursday Bill Barr took off for Mexico on a business trip. - He returned on Monday. More fires. The reels had another run on Sunday af- ternoon, to the pasture land on the 14th near the swamp road. It was burned over nicely. Mr.- and Mrs. J. Foote are reported to have boughtithe property east of Greenbank recently vacated by the An- gus Clement family, so it looks as if they may be leav- ing us. es The Little Britain Jets took the game from Port El- gin on Sat. night. This made 4 wins and they are now Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Gray of Leaskdale visiting with Mr, and Mrs. Harry Phoenix last Friday. Week-end visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Phoenix were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Doble, Ro- ger and Ross of Pickering, Mr. John Phoenix and Mr, Bob Cole of Toronto and Ke- vin- Simmons of Oshawa. The spring U.C.W. thank offering service will be held on Sunday, May 4th. Miss Mary Mclnully a missionary on furlough from Trinidad 'will occupy the pulpit. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wal- ker and family of Hepworth visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. Ian- son last week. Two Junior Farmers spent | a day at the Phoenix farm.
