Annual Meeting of Central Area, Girl Guides of Canada, Mrs. H.T. Cook of Bay Ridges, received a special award for her 25 years of continuous service as a War- ranted Girl Guide leader.Mrs. Cook has been Commissioner of Central Area for the past six years, and received the + Award from Mrs, D.E. Fox of Oshawa, who is; the Deputy Provincial Camp Chairman of Ontario. The Dinner and Meeting, held at Guide House Oshawa, were attended by some 80 Commissioners, Advisers and Executive Members from all parts of Central Area. Each Province is divided into Areas, and Central Area, one of the largest in Ontario, reaches from Colborne on the east, north to Haliburton and west to Metropolitan Toronto, and has 6,056 members in all. Central Area is made up of 5,367 Brownies, Guides, Ran- gers and Cadets, with 536 uniformed leaders and 153 Executive personnel, all vol- unteers, devoting many hours of their time to the Girl Guide Movement and to the training of these young girls, who are the homemakers of tomorrow. Along with the Long Serv- ice Award, Mrs. Cook also received the congratulations and sincere appreciation of the "meeting for a very big job extremely well done. Safety Council Sponsors Poster Competition The project committee of the Ontario County Farm Safety Council met in the Department of Agriculture and Food Board Room, Ux- bridge, on Tuesday, February 11th, to plan its 1969 prog- ramme. . Once again the Council will sponsor a Farm and Home Safety Poster Competition for rural school pupils, grades 5 to 8. This competition has become very popular with 550 entries in 1968. ~ Three 4-H Agricultural Club meetings will be held in June, featuring 'Farm Safety". Each Junior Farmer Club in the County, that completes an approved safety project, will receive a grant from the "Ontario County Farm Safety Council. Before 'the Junior Farmer safety project is start- ed, an outline, explaining the safety objectives and method of carrying out the project, must be submitted for approval to the Project Com- mittee of the Ontario County Farm Safety Council. After the project has been com- pleted, a report on its suc- cess must be forwarded, along with the application for grant, to the Ontario County Farm Safety Council. In November, 1968, 500 Farm Safety Frying Pan Ther- mommeters were distributed inn the County.
