LTR Foire 3 5 NAAR ON eA od --- OBITUARY -- The community of Port Perry were shocked on Sun: .day morning, Feb. 16, when the minister Rev. Alec Rice announced from the Pulpit that Mr. Harry Peel, a pro- minent business man had suddenly passed away a few hours earlier. Apparently the picture of health and enjoyment, he retired the night before, and next morning following a good night's rest, he awoke and looking from his bed re marked to his wife "Looks like a beautiful day the sun is shining". Five minutes later he was silent for ever. William Henry(Harry) Peel was born June 29th, 1906 in A A PORT PERRY STAR the Township of Manvers. In the spring of 1908 the fa- mily moved to the Township of Reach adjoining Port Perry. . Harry was raised there, and received his edu- cation at Port Perry Public and High Schools. Following his graduation he took a two year course at Guelph Agri- cultural College. "Returning home he ' went into partnership with his brother the late Ronald Peel, founding what is now known and established as the Inter- national Peel's Poultry Farm Ltd. On Oct. 14th, 1934 Harry Peel claimed as his bride Hattie, Marie Hamilton of Uxbridge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Hamilton. When the war came invol- ving Canada in 1939, Harry Peel was called into the em- ployment of Pedlars of Osh- awa as Plant Superintend- ent, where he served till the end of the war. In 1944 he purchased the W. L. Parrish Hardware - business. During the following years he was not only active in his own business, but also teok a great interest in the affairs of the town. A very ener getic member of the: busi ness Men's Association, be- coming in the course of time its President. One of his outstanding and most praiseworthy ac- complishments with others cooperating--was the e-tab- lishing of the Community Hospital which was opened in 1953, and on several oc- casions helped to raise fin- ances so urgently needed at that period. In 1955 Harry was elected Warden of the County of Ontario where he continued td render signal service. During 1956 he was laid low as a result of a very seri- ous illness which ended -his municipal activities. When he was able to re- turn home and take up his business again, he took over what is now the Rambler Sales and Garage busines, and rented the Hardware business. In or about 1958 Harry Peel was appointed a mem- ber of the Oshawa Suburban Roads Commission on which he gave faithful service to the very day of his death, that was characteristic of the man, for it gave him great pleasure to serve others. Harry was a very modest person, always quiet and pleasant to meet, very well known to this writer all his life, he very rarely showed anger or displeasure, per- haps he may have been too ienient at times. He leaves to mourn his pas ing, his wife Marie whom he was a devoted husband, also one son Bill who with| his wife Joan and family re- side in Rochester, N.Y. The two grandchildren who like- wise mourn his passing are Kim and Chris. Service was held at the McDermott - Panabaker Fun- eral Home on Tuesday, Feb- ruary 18. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery. Qwing to the illness of Rev. Alec Rice, the service was conducted by a family friend the Rev. R. HI Wylie. The sympathy of the whole community goes out to Mrs. Marie Peel and her son in this sudden bereavement. As an ancient writer once wrote for posterity: "He shall be missed for his place will be empty". Burketon News Thé sympathy of the com- munity is extended to the relatives in the passing of Mr. J.
