The game was a fairly even contest arid end- ed in a 2-2 tie, The Midget game followed, and the local team played also against an Interstate team of Midget players. The Mustangs won this contest 3-2. - Following the two games the young players from Port Perry were welcomed to the homes of the Syracuse play- ers for overnight accommoda- tion, Sunday morning at 9 a.m. the tcurnament again com- '| menced and two games were played, and the opposing teams were the same as on Saturday night. The first teams on the ice were the two Midget teams, and in this contest, the Mustangs won a decisive vic- tory with a score of 6-2. The bantams did equally well and beat their young friends south of the border, 6-1. Don Timleck, coach of the Midget team told the - Star, some of the players on the Syracuse team were of ex- 'cellent - calibre, but officiat- ing was not up to par. Everyone enjoyed the trip, and hospitality was excellent during the week-end stay. The only incident that mared the trip to some de- gree was when young Larry Jackson of the local Bantam team was hit across the bridge of his nose in the Saturday game. He requir- ed 18 stitches, but it didn't HILLTO Now that exams are over and the marks have been handed back, plans are being made for various school ac- tivities. This is the. first year in the history of the school that Port High will have a Winter Carnival and we hope that it will be a success, Carol Anton, Grade 12, is in charge of this: pro- ject and has it planned for the afternoons of Feb. 13 & 14. A few of the activities in the Carnival include ski- doo-races, a greased pig con- test, snowshoe races, chariot races, and will even include the crowning of a "Snow Queen". A candidate from each grade was chosen at random and the names of the five girls have been placed beside a box. Each student will contribute a penny to the box represent- ing the girl he wishes to win the title of "Snow Queen". The box receiving the most pennies will determine the HERALD P winner. The names of the five contestants are as fol- lows: Grade 9--Phoebe Poole, Grade 10 -- Nancy Dowson, Grade 11 -- Barbara Hillier, Grade 12--Linda Moore, and Grade 13--Dianne Lowley. The Winter Carnival will be followed by a Valentine's Dance on the night of Fri- day, Feb. 14th, On Jan. 26th, the Boy's Wrestling team hosted the Stouffville team and won by a score of 28 for Port, 16 for Stouffville. It has heen de- cided that the G.B.SS.A. Wrestling tournament will be held at Port High this year, on Feb. 22nd. Over 15 schools will be competing in this tournament and we hope that our team will put forth a good effort. On Jan. 31st, the Sr. Boy's Basketball team hosted the team from Anderson St. High in Whitby. Brown (2) acounted for Stephen's goals in a 7-5 win over Cart- wright. Waters, Huffman, Prosser, Felstead and Nesbitt scored for the losers. Cartwright edged McCoy 5-4 in Pee Wee. Judson had 4 and Cook 1, while Bronson | (2), Geer and Raporozan re- plied for McCoy. Club Ann- rene Bruins crowned Hurst 5-1. Brett Campbell (2). Moore, Van Weston and Neil scored 1 each. On the local scene it began Jan. 25th with the Pee Wee Tournament and continued through to Feb. 1 with special games ag well as regular All Star & House League games. Quite a num. 'ber of Door prizes donated by local Merchants were also given away. Tues., Jan. 28th saw Tyke Novice, Pee Wee, Bantam House League leading teams play against a team made up of 5 players from each of the other teams in their re- spective class. Results were as follows: NOVICE--Grant--William< Blues played the Novice House League Stars and won Pee Wee -- Don Hurst's team took on the House lea- gue stars coached by Bruce McCoy and came out on the short end of a 5-1 score. BANTAM Campbell's Cartwright team took on the Stars. In a very fast excit- ing game they came out the losers by a score of 3-2. TYKE -- Port Perry All Stars 10, Oshawa 2.
