Mrs. Sam Cawker occupied the chair and opened the meeting with a call to worship and a short reading. After welcoming all present and wishing the new year will be filled with good fortune, Mrs. Cawker called on unit no. 8 to conduct the devotional, Mrs. Harold Jackson led in a very fine devotional with Mrs. Ted Jack- son and Mrs. Howard Hall taking part. The theme was "A New Year's Calendar and likened. the seasons and our lives to times of planting - growing - reaping and resting, thus showing the new year is not a beginning but a continuous 'going on'. A short reading entitled 'Morning thought' closed with these words 'I shall behave myself and leave the rest to God'. Scripture reading, comment- ary, the singing of two hymns and prayer brought the devot- ional period to a close. Business pertaining to last year was attended to. A brief Memorial Service was held in memory of U.C.W. mem- bers who had passed away in 1968. The solemn service led by Mrs. MacTavish exp- ressed our respects, affection and the regret we feel at the loss of these members.
