Three Councils, Firemen To Meet For Discussion A meeting between Port Perry council, members of the Fire Department, Reach and |, Scugog Township councils will take place some time"in January, The meeting has been called "to comply with arequest from the Fire Department, that new in both townships: 'The letter presented early in November, 1968 stated that the truck owned by Reach Township is no longer safe to drive, beyond repair and the tank leaking. A similar request was also sent Scugog Township Council at the same time. Cc a v Production Increased In 1968 - 'Total production by GM during 1968 to Dec. 28 was 335,982 cars and 85,738 trucks compared to 311,614 cars and 73,405 trucks during| the same period in 1967. Ford of Canada produced 286,868 cars and 157,087 trucks to Dec. 28 compared to 177,316 cars and 118,463 trucks during the same period in 1967. Chrysler Canada produced 218,134 cars and 16,638 trucks to Dec. 28 compared to 186,675 cars and 16,137 trucks during the same period in 1967. Fire-Chief Resigns After a faithful service for 35 years on Port Perry Fire Department, and 20 of them as. chief, Mr. Guy Raines has decided to retire. His decision was made known at a meeting held in the Fire Hall, Monday evening. The resignation called for a replacement of Mr. Raines, and following an election, the present deputy-chief Harvey Mabhaffy was elected, and Jack. Cook was given the deputy's job. The election of the two top positions on the Fire Department is subject to council's approval, and it is expected this will be given at the first meeting in January. Councillors Get $20. Per Meeting For the last several years, members of Port Perry council have received $ 16.00 per meeting for their services to the Village. At a meeting held in Dec- ember, sthe question of an increase in remuneration was raised by the retiring reeve, J.J. Gibson, and after a brief discussion, it was decided to increase the remuneration from the present $'16.00 to $ 20.00 per meeting. Scugog Begins Year With Three "Freshmen" On Council t This is the time of inaugural meetings, and the first to be held in this area was on members of Scugog Council Saturday when the elected met for their first meeting of the year. Rev. George Teskey addressed the meeting - and spoke from the 16th chapter of Paul's letter to the Romans, and concluded by 'offering prayers. Prior to the council began discussing the first nleeting's business, the above picture was taken, and seated from left to right are: Clifton Crowell, William Bell, councillors; Rev. George Teskey; Sidney Chandler, clerk-treasurer; Mrs. Helen Redman, councillor; reeve; and Cecil Fralick, Mrs. Grace Love, deputy- reeve. The three councillors are new to municipal politics, but reeve and deputy: reeve have both previous experience.
