Watson On Saturday, January 12, the Port Perry Curling Club 'was the scene of some keen competitive curling when a total of sixteen rinks spent a most enjoyable day curling and fraternizing. Lodges were represented from Oshawa, Bowmanville, Whitby, ' Brooklin, Uxbridge, Pickering. and Sunderland. The high three game winner was skipped by Roy Cornish of Port Perry, vice-skip, Har- old Howsam, second, John Barton, lead, Bill Gliddon all members of Fidelity Lodge. Each member of the winning rink received: an electric shaver. ; Secor prize went to Larry Doble's rink. of Ux- | bridge, skipped by Jim Baird} vice-skip, Morley Bruce, sec- ond, Ches Oldham. and lead Larry. Doble. : _.Third prize was --won-- by Neil Malcolm's rink of Port First prize was presented to the winning rink by the Worshipful -Master of Fidel ity Lodge, Brother Went- worth Watson, who congrat- ulated all the winners and expressed the pleasure of the Fidelity brethren on be- ing able to provide such an enjoyable day for all of the curlers. Brian Campbell got Port's only goal. Novice defeated Bay Ridges to. the tune of 6-3. Brian Campbell scored 2, Sean Tay- lor 2, John Bourgeois & Tim Ashbridge scored 1 goal each. Beare Motor's Bantams played Brooklin to a 2-2 tie. scored for Port Perry. Don't forget the double header Fri, Jan. 18th when Port Perry Novice play Pick: ering at 8 p.m. and Bantams play host to Bionttyille at 9 p.m. Mustangs Doing Well | Mustangs 4, Pickering: 3 Monday night at the Arena Cy Wilson's Mustangs won a -| real squeaker over the Pick- ering Midgets." There was plenty of two way action right from the opening of the game. Mustangs took a 1-0 lead midway in the first period when Ron Jeffery dug the puck out of the corner to the Pickering goalie. Shorty after the second period got 'under way Brian McNab carried the puck from his own end on a solo rush ing net Towards the end of the second Rick Evans poked the puck from a Pickering shot from the blue line that slid under the Pickering net- minder to make it 3-0. The third period.saw Pick- ering come out determined to carry the play and they shortly. after .the period got underway. A. few moments later Ken Irvine made it 4-1 for Mustangs 'assisted by R. Moase and Bill - Davidson, Pickering scored two goals short due to penalties to make it 4-3 and set the stage for a cliff hanging finish, Mustangs received a bench penalty with about a minute and a half left to play. Pickering ffiteen seconds fit in the game scored the tying goal, however it was disallowed goal crease, It was an ex- citing game and the fans who turned out were well pleased.
