+ pr 0) at ARAL Ean 3 ' 1s ee er 4 Tr SO SRC SI SSS -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, Nov. 16th, 1967 Local Public School Pupils Excel In Poster Contest The Ontario County Tuber- culosis and Health Associa tion has sponsored a poster contest open to all students in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 of the schools of Ontario County. The aim of the Association was to acquaint the students with the necessity of continu- ing the fight against TB and other respiratory diseases (RD) such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, etc. The Association sup- plied the schools with litera- ture from which the students could acquire much infor- mation concerning the pro- jects and work of the TB As- sociation, all made possible through the sale of Christmas Seals. The response to the poster contest was very gratifying with forty schools competing and a total of about 200 en- tries. All posters were well done and the students are to be complimented for their efforts. The Association is grateful to the teachers who co-operated in making the contest a success. Winners in this area are: Grades 5 & 6-- 1st--Dale Wannamaker, (Meadowcrest, Brooklin) 2nd--Darcy Wallace (R. H. Cornish, Port Perry) 3rd--Paul Hart (E. A. Naples The November meeting of The Louise Patterson Handi- craft Guild was held in Lind- say at the home of Mrs. Vera Hutton with 16 members and 1 visitor present. Various crafts were dis- played, creating a great deal of interest. Members were very busy exchanging ideas and patterns for making ar- ticles such as dolls from ma- gazines, Xmas wreath from I.LB.M. cards, Vases from ja- vex bottles, and knitted pin cushions in the shape of hats. Articles made by the mem- bers such as crewel embroid- ery, weaving, fancy wall pla- quesy punch work, and cro- chet work were shown. A discussion was held re- garding the color composi tion of a hooked rug. A lovely lunch was served by the Hostes-es: Mrs. Rob- ertson, Bobcaygeon; Mrs. El. liott, Dunsford; Mrs. Hutton, Lindsay. All present thoroughly en- joyed the afternoon. The next meeting on Dec- ember 13th will be held at the home of Mrs. Hilda Hart- mann, Port Perry at 2 o'clock.
