Douglas Redpath presided Following the opening Hymn and Prayer, Mrs. Glenn Lar mer, President of Blackstock U.C.W. extended the wel: come. A very interesting and helpful question and answer period was held and many problems voiced and answer- ed by ways other UCWs dealt with them. Devotions at this morning cession were taken by Myrtle Ladies. A lovely luncheon was partaken of in the Christian Education room, following which Rev. P. Romeril ex- tended greetings. Now all filed to the lower hall of the church and saw an informa- tive film on conditions in Japan. as Japan is to be the Mission Study for 1968. At 1.30 p.m. the second session commenced. During this period Mrs. Alan Down gave a fine report of the re- cent school for leaders at Elm Lodge. The devotions 'were given by Nestleton U.C.W. Rev. Margaret Butler, su pervisor of Social Workers in the protection department of Oshawa Children's Aid So- ciety gave a very enlighten: ing talk on the work of that [| Society. Mrs. Philip Romeril guided a question period on this work, and Mrs. Butler furnishell the answers. A goodly number attended and all considered it a very worth-while and helpful day. Anniversary services were held in the United Church Sunday. In the morning a packed congregation greeted Rev. J. E. Griffith of Toronto who was Pastor of this charge from 1943 - 1947 and who preacher an impressive sermon from the theme -- "Squeeze to the Right". The homeé~choir rendered an an- them--*"Praise My Soul, the Fatturs i Tons and Mr. Fairhurst §f Pontypool sang a solo Have Thine own Way, Lord". At the evening service the church was almost filled. The choir from Prince Albert rendered two fine Anthems "The Lord of the Hills" and "How Great Thou Art". Mr. Griffith chose as the theme for another fine sermon -- 'Who is a Christian Disciple?' Next Sunday there will be no 10 a.m. service but at 2.30 p.m. there is to be a Rededi- cation Service. Rev. Melvin Buttars, B.A, B.D., President of the Bay of Quinte Confer- ence is to be guest speaker. This service to be followed by a Social Hour. A special invitation is extended to all interested friends. In St. John's Church Sun- day morning Rev. R. C. Rose chose as the theme for his fine sermon--*'"The House of . Worship". Don't forget Remembrance Day Service in the Commun- ity Hall Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10.30 a.m. Rev. R. C. Rose in charge of service. Guides, Brownies, Scouts and Cubs are to attend. On Saturday evening their family enter- tained them when all par- took of a Smorgasbord sup- per at Genosha dining hall, Oshawa. Following this all gathered at the home of their granddaughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bennett and spent a very enjoyable even- ing of games and visiting. All attending were: the honoured guests--Mr. & Mrs. Leith Byers; their daughter and son-in law, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Swain; Son and daugh- ter-in law, Mr. and Mrs. Mur- ray Byers, grandchildren and their friends; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bennett (nee Miriam Swain); Donald and Ralph Swain; Miss Louise Moore; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Byers; Miss Janice Byers and Mr. Leslie Bushfield. Mr. & Mrs. Leith Byers were presented with an electric blanket. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Thomp- son and family entertained Rev. and Mrs. J. E. Griffith and Miss Ruth Marlow of Toronto; Rev. and Mrs. P. Romeril and Dennis; Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Marlow on Sun- day. Mrs. Edith Murphy, Tyrone; Dennis McLaughlin, Guelph; Mr. and Mrs. David Kyte were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy McLaughlin & Debra. Sorry to report Mrs. Leslie Mountjoy is in Port Perry Hospital. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hoskin (nee Sandra Imrey) who were married in Lindsay Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Malcolm and family attended the 127th anniversary of Brook- lin United Church Sunday when Rev. Kenneth Jull was guest speaker. The Malcolms spent the day with her mo- ther Mrs. A. J. Cook. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Bailey left Wednesday to spend the winter in Florida. Mrs. J. A. McArthur and Mrs. Chas.
