Professor Bell started our most precious tradition- helping people The photo 'communi Crane, who must both blind and deaf, Today, you know Alexander Graham Bell as the inventor of the telephone. But to himself and his family, his profession was that of '"Teacher of the Deaf" ~In his search for better teaching methods, he probed the mechanics of speec His investigation of the vibrations of the larynx -- the creation and transmission of sound, of words -- led him to invent what we now know as the telephone. It was only incidental to his real life's work. This work was to help people -- particularly the handicapped. And that is a tradition which we at Bell Canada, do our very utmost to keep alive. You'll find evidence of it in special telephones 'for the handicapped, in an artificial larynx for - people without vocal cords, SEDC ER and in everything we do to help you communicate with one another. shows Professor Bell cating' with Charlie a Canadian boy talk with his fingers. h. Bell Canada You don't have to go to Expo to write a column about it. I could write a book. The country is full of Expo ex- perts who are only too ready to fill you in on everything about it, after spending two bewildered days there. We've been hearing about Expo from friends, relatives, neigh- bours, and casual acquaint-. ances until we have Czech blown glass coming out our ears. 8 It's rather amusing to have people who have never seen anything bigger than the county fair dismissing the Russion pavilion as "brittle" or "ponderous," or praising the British pavilion as "sul tle" or "wonderfully under stated." They've picked up these expressions from the critics and are going to use them even if it makes you throw up. Everything we've "heard about it has been contradic-. tory, from the availability of lavatories to the price of meals; However, that's life,' that's people and that's pro- bably Expo. Today we leave. We're &ll set. My wife hasn't slept for two nights and has a blister on her heel. Kim has a fall- en arch. I have a vicious corn on the ball of my foot. But never mind that. It's the spirit that counts. And oyrs are very low. --Toronto Telegram - News Service on 1967 , COMPANY CARS low mileage full warranty.
