One of these had just been lit by volunteer Fire Captain Jack Raymond Cook when it exploded prematurely, hitt- ing him in the left hand. Jack, who lives at'129 John Street in Port Perry, and a car mechanic by trade, was taken to Oshawa General Hospital - where emergency surgery was performed to amputate the index finger] Centre, a team of doctors, and generally repair the in- jured left hand. Now at the Workmen's Compensation Board Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre in Downsview; he is regaining the mobility and strength in the hand and looking for. ward to the day when he will return to his. job at Bob Ar. cher Motors, and his home in Port Perry. The father of two boys and three girls, Jack Cook has been a volunteer fireman since 1957. Studying his progress is Eileen Graham, one of the Board's occupational therapists. physical and occupational therapists and remedial gym: nasts have coordinated their professional skills to design a program specifically to get the hand and Jack back to work as soon as possible. As part of this program, Jack is making a stylish wooden ma- gazine rack for his home. On leave from the Centre over the long holiday week- end, Jack Cook took in a round of golf, and although an accurate score was not kept, the hand showed more mobility and less swelling than before.
