Only in the planning stages, but with a serious aim at completing it, the organization as a Centennial project hopes to build new washrooms at the Fair Grounds. | This was brought to light at a meeting by Port Perry Coun- cil, where Fred Christie and Claire Vernon representing. the Fair Board explained to' coun: cil that the cost of the "new washrooms was estimated to be $4,800. If the plans should become a reality this year, the Fair Board would like to see that Port Perry would take on the respon- sibility of taking care of the buildings. The council members found this request quite reason- able. The turnout for the vote was the heaviest in the his- tory. of the Township, and 231 of 260 eligible voters cast their ballots. Of the 231 ballots cast, eight were spoiled, which gave the affirmative voters one ballot more than re- quired to make the 609, necessary to win the vote. "It is a startling difference in the interest and turnout for the type of vote held last week compared to a more important- vote such as a municipal election. _In_December 1966 when the municipal elections in Scugog Township was held only 32.279, of the eligible voters turned out, while at the recent vote on a dining room licence the interest almost trippled to 88.857.
