Mrs. Sam Cawker, president, opened the meeting with an appropri- ate poem, followed by prayer. She then welcomed the mem- bers and guests, especially the gentlemen of the panel. Mrs. John McKelvie, assisted 'Murray Williams of Unit 8, led in a most inspiring devotional service based on the Scripture passage, Ephesians, chapter 4. Mrs. Cawker then introduced the panel, Rev. R. C. Rose, rec- tor of the Church of the Ascen- sion and Rev. Alec G. Rice, minister of the United Church. These gentlemen, she explained, had come prepared to lead in an informal discussion about the proposed union of the An- glican and United Churches. Rev. Rice explained that he and Rev. Rose had méf®p prepare a number of questions as a basis for discussion at. this meeting. They invited all mem- bers to feel free to ask their own questions and take an ac- ~~ tive ypart--in-- discussion.....The |. members should read a prepar- statement called, "The Prin- ciples of Union between the An- glican Church of Canada and |' the United Church of Canada." A copy of this statement is printed in the back of our pre-| sent study book, The Church and The World. This is a do- cument concerning basic prin- ciples and not final expressions of doctrine or details of organ- ization and liturgy. It will pro- vide a sufficient basis for the two churches to set about pre- paring concrete and detailed plans under the direction of the recommended commissions. The panel advised that the lay mem- swered by the panel. bers of the two churches should meet with each other to dis- cuss this matter. Many questions were asked by the group and were ably an- The dis- cussion reluctantly came to a 'close. with the hope that pur Lord's prayer may some day be answered, that 'they all may be one." Mrs. Ray Litt, in her capable manner, thanked the two min- isters for their most informa- tive discussion. Mrs. Ted Jackson and. Mrs. Howard Hall then led in a rou- sing sing song beginning with "The Church's One Foundation" and closing with "It's That Old Time Religion." These lively hymns and gospel songs were sung with old time enthusiasm: A St. Valentine buffet lunch was tastefully prepared by members of unit 9 and was en- joyed by all. A short business = period brought the social 'period to a close. te | LOTTA, 70 US FORA |LOVELIER YoU, WORLD OF geaury le GLENETTE BEAUTY SALON (Glenda Taylor, Prop.) 985-7991 UTICA Mr. and Mrs. Bert Mitchell and Mrs. James Mitchell attend- ed the funeral of the late Mr. Parkins at Brooklin on Satur- day.
