This was brought to the at- tention of Port Perry Council at the last regular meeting, in 1] the form of a letter. The department suggests Scu- gog Township should have a tank truck similar to what Reach Township has. The pre- sent Port Perry fire truck does not carry sufficient amount of water to fight rural fires, and is very harmful fo the truck. After a brief discussion, the | council decided fo 'write Sciigog | Township, advising them of the Fire Department's request. Anti-Rabies Clinics Will Be Held In Durham County Anti-Rabies Vaccination Clin- ics for all dogs and cats in the County of Durham will be held during February 3rd to 9th. The service ig offered free of charge by the Canada Depart- ment of Agriculture, Health of Animals Branch. All owners of pets are urged to take this opportunity of. -having their animals vaccinated. A complete schedule, of when and where, to take the pets is | listed _in an _ advertisement on At the last Port Perry Coun- cil meeting, representation from Branch 419, Royal Canadian Legion, Port Perry, made a re- quest to have the rebate of the public school portion of taxes re-instated. Representing the Branch were W. E. Mulholland, presidgnt, and Frank Godley, secretary, through a letter, who claimed that fermer- councils of «Port Perry, made such grants each year for a ten-year period up to 1965 ~under the Rifthoriy of a Act, Sec. 377 sub-sec. 70. The Act authorized=-such re- bates * to charitable organiza: tions composed of military vet erans who had served their country at the time of any foreign war, but these provi sions expired in .1965, having then run for a period of ten years. The letter further states that legal advise had been obtained, and that under the provisions of the Ontario Municipal act, sec. 377, sub-sec. 28, the Council may now authorize a rebate of the public school portion of the 1966 taxes, although assessment now is County-wide. With a $5,000.00 pledge to the proposed Community Hospital, the letter states, and yearly page 8 in this issue of the Star. bursaries to the amount of Minutes of a regular meeting of Council of the Village of Port Perry held in the Munici- pal office on Tuesday, January 24th. The course will be held in the Fire Hall, and the total cost will be $96.00, and paid by the Corporation of Port Perry. regular World Day of Prayer Friday, February 10 As has been customary in re cent years the first Friday in Lent, Feb. 10th, 1967 has been set aside for services which will unite Christian Women in 150 countries & areas. Local Service will be held at the Port Perry Bagiist Church at 3 p.m. The service this year has been prepared by the late Queen Salote of Tonga, a dedi. cated Christian. Her theme for this service is "And of His Kingdom there shall be no end". The Day of Prayer began in the United States in. 1887 and in Canada in 1895 and spread around the world. Offerings in Canada amount- ed to more than $75,000.00 last year and this money is used for the publication and distribution of Christian literature, refugee work--and--o-t-her concerns 1 brah the world. and throughout the evening a charming ladies quartette from Oshawa "The Accoustichords" delighted those present with their harmonious, renditions of several songs and had the audi- ence participating in some as well.
