"MN - sary coat. SEY FRI 3 al LiF Fa LETTER FROM MRS. J. C. CAIRNS ry Enjoys Flight To New Zealand So many friends asked me to tell them about my trip to New Zealand I have asked the Edi- tor of the Port Perry Star, to include this letter in his next issue, » My flight was scheduled for December seventh but fog de- layed all flights on that day so I 'left Toronto Airport a week later, December 14th. Mrs. W, T. Harris and Mrs. A. Brock took me to Malton and I left at 4.25 pm. We went C.P. Air and were scheduled to fly direct to Honolulu but head- winds over the North Western United States forced us to pro- ceed to Vancouver, There we stayed for forty minutes and arrived at Honolulu 21% hours late. The officers were WRAL --they rushed me through the boarding gate and five minutes after I was seated (in First Class instead of Economy, for which I had paid) the plane started, We came down at Figi for twenty minutes and from Figi our speed was fast and when we grounded at Auckland we had made up the lost time, arriving almost on schedulé. At Honolulu the - C.P. Air passengers transferred to Air New Zealand Flight 301 but my suitcase was overlooked and I| arrived in Auckland with a small handbag and an unneces- There again the of- ficials were helpful and I am sure I will have my luggage very soon. A friend of my family met me and took me to his house where. his wife and two teen- agers had waited breakfast for us. Later they drove ne a- round the city and it-is beauti- ful--flowérs everywhere, roses, hyderanges, azeleas, fushias, pelergoniums, hedges of privet with a wealth of yellow leaves, borders of lobelias, every gard- en carefully tended. My host lives in a beautiful section in the suburbs of Auck- land and his children run down to the sandy beach where an eleven-foot tide comes in to cool the hot sand. December sixteenth I was driv- en to Auckland Airport and boarded an Inter-Island plane bound for Wellington, the Ca- pital of New Zealand. This smaller plane was the last word in comfort and. con- venience, having been commis- sioned only two weeks ago--on December first. South of Auckland is the small lovely resort town of Matta-Matta which I hope to visit soon. "Dr. William Cawker of Port Perry is veterinary Sur- geon in this beautiful town. This trip was interesting be- cause the many towns have suf- fered volcanic eruptions in the past and the wounds on hills of lava still are to be seen on this journey. Nowadays there are tremors but no such devastation as we saw in the movie "Green Drag- on Street" with Vigtor Mature as the hero. With good wishes to. all for 1967. reais Mary Cairns.
