According to turnout for the municipal elections, a mere 36%, the fact that all mem- bers of council, except one, Mr. I. Licence "Plates Moving Slowly Only 125 Sold Since iii 'per mits licence plates went on sale Dec- ember 1st, th demand for same has been: very light, Mr. Gordon Reesor, local issuer informed the Star on Tuesday morning. At that time only 125 plates of a possible 3,000 to 4,000 had been sold. */The purchasers will notice a change in the plates this year. They have been especially de- signed to mark the observance of Canada's Centennial. The lettering is white on a blue background with "19 Ontario 67" on the top, and "18 Con- federation 67" on the bottom of the plate. Licence numbers will. be separated by a crown instead of a dot as in previous years. There is no change in the cost of plates this year A four-cylinder car plate will be $15.00; six-cylinder $20.00 and eight-cylinder $25.00. Deadline for car plates is February 28th, and for commer- cial vehicles trailers and con- version units March 31st. The only new member: of the next zouacil is Philip Orde, who has lived in Port Perry all his life, is a busi- nessman and respected citizen, should have no trouble filling the fifth position on Council. Reeve J. J. Gibson and deputy-reeve Bruce Beare were both acclaimed. Mi. Gibson is starting his 10th year as reeve of Port Perry, and Mr. Beare his first. Mr. Beare, however should be well qualified for the position, with a back ground of 5 years as councillor. Robt. Kenny, who topped. the polls and Irving Boyd, deputy-reeve for the past term, both with several years of experience are the fourth and fifth .members, and should help make a well balanced council. The three defeated candidates in the running should have no regrets. Two of the candidates Joseph*M7Frans- sen and Ken P. Murray made a first attempt and Orton Michie a second, but considering they were up against seasoned veterans, with several years of municipal ex- perience, the result was quite encouraging. At the time the picure was taken. 30 patients were in the hospital, and this is. the absolute maximum the hospital can care for, Lack of space is also evident in the administrative section of the hospital. This can clearly be seen from the second picture at the top of the page. No mat- ter how efficient the staff may lack of workirg space will always be a detriment, whether it is a hospital any other type of business establishment. As the population increases in Port Perry and surrounding communities, lack of space will ol a "incident, be, or be even more acute. Sirce the Community Memor- ial' Hospital was opened in January 1953. the population of Fort Perry has increased from 1,963 to an all time high of 2,623. This is an increase of almost 700, or about 259%.
