Moffatt (nee Holtby) of Brandon, Man., who celebrated her 90th birthday on Nov. 30th. On Nov. 27th "Open House" was held at Robert and Jean Moffatt's home at Carroll. Many friends and relatives called, including Mr. and Mrs. Robert Turnersof Neepawa with his mother Mrs. A. R. Turner, the former Mable Ham of Scu- gog Island, who was 90 years old on Oct. 31st. .The many friends of Mrs. Lola Wilson are sorry to learn Ada she is ill in Oshawa Hospital. We: wish her a complete re- covery. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Tietze of Monroe, N.Y called on Holtby relatives last week-end. ~ David Conroy.spent the week- end with his mother in Toronto. Mrs. Clara Thorne, Oshawa was with her sister, Mrs. Ale- "tha Holtby on the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Card and fam- ily have moved into the Munro home. We welcome them. Dob- son on Saturday evening. = The annual Christmas meet- ing of the U.C.W. was held at the home. of Mrs. Annie Toombs last Thursday afternoon. The meeting was held in the lovely recreation room which was gay with Christmas lights and flow- ers. The meeting opened with the hymn "Silent Night". Rev. Mr. Teskey was in charge of a very fine Christmas worship service, Pres. Mrs Croxall chaired a short business meeting. Mem- bers and visitors were welcom- ed and sincere thanks extended to the hostess: . Twenty-one members answer- ed the roll and five visitors were present. Correspondence was read and discussed. Presbytery dues were voted to be paid and a $5. donation given the S. S. toward Christmas candy bags. , The January meeting will be held' at Mrs. Oswald. Croxalls on Thursday 5th. The meeting closed "with hymn "Hark the Herald Angels sing". Annie showed a lovely Christmas mo- vie "The Pony". All sat down to tables beautifully decorated and laden with delicious food. They will certainly try. The first of these was the Christmas pageant given by the children in the church on Sun- day evening. This presentation involves a great deal of work for the committee but is very worthwhile especially for the children. Thanks go to the large cast who tried .so hard and produced, such a splendid service. The committee . in charge consisted of Mrs." Barr, Mrs. Nicholls, Mrs. K' Short & Mrs J. Hallett with Wm, Keen as usual tending to the' light- ing. The 'second important event will come on the evening of Friday 16th when Santa will arrive at the conclusion of the annual Christmas concert. All are welcome. Many of the sports - minded folk of Seagrave attended the dance sponsored by the Sonya ball club on Saturday .evening 8 at the Legion Hall, Port Perry. In the small hours of Thurs- day morning Mrs, Alvin Bruce 8 was rushed to Lindsay hospital in severe pain. Reports say that she is recovering nicely. | 8 Her daughter Mrs. Clarke of Toronto visited her on Sat. and Mr. and Mrs, Ivan Bruce and family of Oakville paid a visit on Sunday. On Monday, Mrs. Butt ve- ceived word that her brother Mr Vie Sharpe had suffered a heart seizure. He is doing as well as can be expected. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Cart- wright of Toronto spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. A, Moon. - Mrs. Bessie Fishley spent a few days last week with her son Jimmy-and his wife in Osh- awa: Over the week-end this young couple visited with Mr, and Mrs. Neil Wanamaker.
