Now, however comes the aftermath of the results, which lead to two courses of action--modest con- gratulations or further study- ing. This show of relief was most evident at the Sadie Hawkins Dance held last Friday, Decem= ber 2nd. This of course, is that one time during the school year when the girls get to ask the boy of their choice to take them to the dance. Everyone enjoy- ed themselves dancing to the music, including some brand new hits, played by our Disec- jockeys Don McCaig and Dave Read. a In athletics all our attention is now being diverted to bas- ketball. This is probably Port's best team sport as we often win several championships, This | year's Junior boys team, coach- ed by Mr. Neigh have already played their first exhibition game against Anderson Street Un- fortunately our team lost 28- 19 but according to Mr. Cole, who accompanied the team the "boys were so overwhelmed the first half they only stood and passed the ball. However in the second half they came back to life to score 15 pts. against only 7 for Whitby. We should count on some real action in future games. The regular basketball schedule does mot begin until January. The Junior girls are being 'coached by Mrs. Dekker, the Seniors by Miss Hunt while the Intermediate boys are being coached by Mr. Firth, the Srs. by Mr. Dekker. All the teams are practicing hard and looking forward to a good season. * kk Last Friday, December 9th was a very active and success- ful day for Port Perry High in athletics: The Junior basket- ball team coached by Mr. Neigh defeated Saint Joseph's High School in an exhibition game 40-31, playing in Oshawa. though the game was a fine team effort, Brian McNab stood out as thé Junior's best player scoring 32 of Port's points. Fol- lowing this game Mr. Firth's Intermediates defeated Saint Joseph's team 28-26. Meanwhile our Senior Boy's basketball team failed to win their game against McLaughlin Collegiate, also in Oshawa. Also on Friday our wrestling team won its match versus Henry St. High School in Whit~ by. They won 10 of the 13 matches to win 52-12, On Mon- * day, however they were less successful against Agincourt losing 21-7. The girls basketball teams, Juniors under Mrs. Dekker and Seniors coached by Miss Hunt are practicing regularly for their first exhibition' games. The regular basketball season | for all «gr teams commences after the Christmas holidays in January. This time of year is also a busy one for the Student's "Council which is working on this year's Christmas Party to be held on the last day of school as well as making pre- parations for the Annual "At Home" in January. Other groups within the school = are actively planning parties as well. The Library Club is having a Christmas Dimmer Party for members next week while this week the Ger- man Club will have its meeting which includes going out carol- ling on Wednesday evening. sample book.
