From all of us members we say a hearty thank you to our paper for their kindness in accepting & printing our write ups through the year. A great number of people have Port Perry Star delivered to them and naturally our Senior Citi- zens, particularly those who are members, enjoy reading about the doings of our Club. May wi wish one and all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. In the near future there will be tickets sold on different things donated. Next meeting at the Hall will be Dec. 14th at 2 p.m. A Euchre will also be held there on Sat., Dec. 10th at 8.30 p.m. New group for the month will be in charge. This has been a very happy and successful year for these Euchres and when 22 tables are set up, we feel it is worth all our efforts, and everyone seems to have a happy time. Always a bounteous lunch is served, and for a small charge. So come and join us and meet your friends. 'We notice all around homes are being beautifuly decorated. also Port Perry's main street, and gives us all the feeling that Christmas is near. May we re- minisce in the past by adding a little poem to give an idea how times have changed in regards to work on a farm, and how us older folk are so glad, our far- mer's wives have it so much easier now with modern con- veniences, Cherrio everyone till we meet at our next regular get togeth- er at the Hall, No Euchre re- port until after Dec. 10th. * * * In Grandma's Day Grandmother on a winter's day, Milked the cows and fed them hay, Slopped the hogs, Saldieg the mule, And got the children off to school, Did the washing, mopped the floors, . Swept the parlour and made the beds, Baked a dozen loaves of bread, Split some firewood and lugged it in, Enough to fill the kitchen bin, Cleaned the lamps and put in oil, Stewed some apples she thought might spoil. Whitby officers investi- gated 26 accidents last week and 16 of them resulted from driving too fast on the slip- pery roads. . 10 persons were injured and 15 drivers were charged. Drivers checked to- taled 102 with 4 warnings and 51 charges laid. Speeding is, as usual, number one offence but it seems that persons who are ignoring stop signs are on the increase. General occurrences totalled 54 with 18 Break Enter and Thefts. 9 of these break-ins occurred in summer cottages & cottage owners would be well advised to remove all easily transported appliances and household goods such as port- able T.V. sets,mayadios, silver- | ware, etc. when they close the cottage for the winter. There were also 6 insecure premises & 3 malicious damage complaints & 32 miscellaneous complaints ingluding a number of drivers that are failing to stop for school buses. During this holiday season all '| available personnel will be on duty in an all out effort to re- duce accidents, injury & death. Motorists in the Whitby O.P.P.
