In the course ship Messrs. . William Gardner elders of the Church, following their election by the congrega- tion some weeks earlier. The Reverend H. M. Buntain, Minister of Burns Church and Moderator of the Session, con- ducted the service of worship and of ordination and preached a sermon from the text of 1 Peter 5:1 on the theme of "The Ruling Elder", He spoke of the history of the eldership, the of- fice and duties" of the ruling elder, and of the responsibility of the congregation to their elders. In the historic service of or- dination, the steps leading up to the ordination service were narrated by Mr. Buntain., This was followed by the prescribed questions to the elders-elect and to the congregation. Then with | the other elders on either side of the elders=elect, the Modera- tor in the Name of the Lord Jesus and by the authority of the Session ordained Mr, Knight and Hugh Knight were solemnly | set apart by prayer to be ruling | 1966 ph. n ¥ My, Gardner to the A ir able and responsible office. Af- ter 'the charges were given (to them and to-the congregatiol, the other elders welcomed them to the fellowship and work of the Session. The ordination of these men brings the number of Eldersin Burns Church to eight. They are as follows: Mr, Her- bert Ashton, (Clerk), Mr. Nor- man Anderson, Mr. Walter Knight, Mr. Edgar Heron, Mr, Russell Batten, Mr. Douglas Ashton, Mr, William Gardner, and Mr. Hugh Knight. The music for the service was under the leadership of Mrs. Edgar Heron as Organist and Mrs. Ray Graham was soloist, She sang as her selection "How Great Thou Art." The services of worship dur- ing July have been at the hour of 9.30 a.m., but during the month of August the hour of the Sunday service of worship will be 7.30 p.m, During August the Reverend W. R. Tristram of Port Perry will conduct the Sunday serviges under vacation arrangements Perry United Church with whom Port Perry and Ashburn co- operate in the holiday period. McARTHUR - SMITH Armour Heights United Church, Toronto, beautifully de- corated with large baskets of other flowers, was the setting for the marriage of Megan Louise Smith, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. B. E. Smith, Toronto and Ardis John McArthur, son of Dr. J. A, and Mrs. McArthur, Blackstock. Rev. R. D. Binning was the officiating cleryman. Music was played by Mr. Hanford and Mrs. King was soloist. The Bride was given in mar- charmingly attired in a gown of white Peau de Faille, with scooped neck, empire waist, empire train with lace medali- ons, a chapel length veil with crown of lace medalions. She carried a boquet of a pale yellow tinted orchid surrounded by lily of the valley. The bride's three sisters were her attendants Patricia Smith, maid of honour, Heather and Suzanne Smith, bridesmaids. All were dressed in formal length gowns of apple green or- ganza over matching taffeta with white lace tops and back panels of organza from the waist line, The attendants head dressings were matching apple green flower crowns with circular veils. They carried bo- quets of yellow roses to match "I'the bride's orchid. The best man was Mr, Alan Asselstine, a friend "of the groom. Ushers were. Messrs. Ardis. Dempsey, cousin of the groom, John Marr, cousin of the bride and Ilmar Pirso, The reception was held at Thornhill Golf and Country Club. The bride's mother re- ceived, wearing a long shrimp gown, small hat of varying pinks and corsage on purse of sweet-heart roses. The groom's mother assisted in a long beige gown with lace top, green hat with yellow flowers and corsage of yellow and green roses mat- ching colours in her hat, The bride's travelling costume for their trip to Ponoco Moun- tains, Penn., was a pale yellow sheath with matching tailored coat and wide brimmed hat of the same colour. They will reside at 22 Elk- horn Dr., Willowdale. The bride attended Toronto Public School, Lawrence Park Collegiate, Waterloo Lutheran riage by her father and was DING -- Linearity from latter and re- ceived a BA. May 1966. The groom wright Public and High Schools and. graduated with B.Se. de- gree from Waterloo Lutheran University, May 1966. Following the wedding re- hearsal Miss Betty McArthur, sister of the groom, was hostess at a cocktail party at her apart- ment in Toronto. Both bride and groom were entertained at different showers and parties prior to their wed- ding, Guests attended froim 'Metz, France; Toronto; Montreal; New York; Texas; Minden; Hamiltan; Uxbridge; stock and Caesarea. Lions All-Stars Win 1st Annual Tournament Last Saturday the first an- nual Bantam Softball Tourna- ment was held in Port Perry. The Port Perry Star Trophy was the prize- for the winning team of the tournament. tournament with the Port Perry Lions Bantams coming out on Perry. - Two teams from Port Perry took part, the Port Perry Lions and Mersco's, along with two from East Gwillimbury, one from Storrie Park in Oshawa and one from Markham. In winning the trophy the Lions Bantams had to win three games, They defeated Markham 9-5 in their 1st game and downed Oshawa 15-5 in the semi-finals. They advanced to the finals where they met East Gwillimbury No. 1 team and came out on top of a 10-5 count. Scores of the other games were as 'follows. Oshawa 16, East Gwillimbury No. 2 team 3; East Gwillimbury No, 1 team 6, Port Perry Mersco's 1. Minor Softball Assoc. are to be congratulated for their efforts in promoting this tournament. A large crowd was on hand most of the day and enjoyed every game, All the softball fans will be looking forward to this event again next year, Ruling with the Port .
