Mr, and Mrs. Alan Ashton & Michael were Sunday Supper guests with Mr. and Mrs, H. Strong of Manchester, The couples club had a wiener roast Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. K, Ash- ton and Mr. and Mrs. A. Ash- ton, Mr and Mrs. B. Bushell and girls of 'Oshawa, Mr." and 'Mrs: H. Ashton called on Mrs, -Alan Watson and Mr .and Mrs. Bert Bushell in Toronto on Sunday afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Don Asling at- tended the graduation exercises at Convocation Hall U, of T. last Friday when Jerrold Asling graduated as Dr. of Dentistry. Mr. and. Mrs. Elmer Wilson will attend 'Graduation KExer- cises on Thursday when their son Keith receives his degree as B. of Sci. at Toronto Univer- sity, Keith will return next year for further study. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Asling attended the A.0.T.S. Ladies night at Trinity United Church Uxbridge. Miss Margaret Smith of Markham was the guest speaker, Mrs. K, Catherwood of Brook- lin and her uncle Mr. Horace Searle of Columbus visited Mr, and Mrs. H., Ashton one after- noon last week. Mrs, Jean Millman was in Ottawa for the week-end. We welcome Miss Ruby Wil- son who is home on furlough from her Mission in Africa. On Saturday the Wilson family held a picnic at the home of Mr, and Mrs, Earl Wilson.. Mr.' and Mrs, Roy Wilson and family of Winchester were present, completing the family picture, Present Couplé With Gi it -On. Wednesday evening the members of the Scout Group Committee held their 8rd an- nual Court Whisk party at the Scout Hall in appreciation to the Scouters and Guiders in Port Perry. After an enjoyable evening of 'cards all proceeded to 'the Fla mingo Restauraiit for Chinese food, Mr, Gerald Nelson was master of ceremonies for the remainder of the evening. The main event of the evening was the presentation of a gift by Ralph Taylor on behalf of the group committee to Mr. & Mrs. John Jefford, 'who have been very active in Scouting and Guiding for 15 years in Port Perry. Mr, Jefford, who has been a teacher at the High School is leaving to teach at Elliot Lake. Spring Fair (Continued) Two members of Manchester U.C.W., Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Croxall, clad gaily as gypsies, conned the tea leaves of destiny and predicted fortunes with a- plomb and a professional air. Tickets for the golf clubs, donated by the Sunnybrae Golf Course and sold by the Prince Albert Service Club netted over $180.00. The lucky winner was Mr. Appleton of Brooklin and it is hoped that he will derive much pleasure from his good fortune. It was inspiring to observe how working for a common goal broke down the barriers of de- | nominationalism and united wo- men from different churches in a common cause, Mrs, Cornish, chairman of the Fair committee and all the members "of the Auxiliary are grateful to all the organizations who participated and worked so hard and the resulting total of over $1000 is extremely gratifying and hear t- | warming. Will Conduct Music Exams " The following member of the Board of Examiners of the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto will conduct current examinations for the Conserva- tory in Port Perry: Dr, David Oucherlong, on June 16 - 17, Dr. Oucheterlong is Supervi- sor of Branches for the Royal Conservatory of Music in Tor- onto. In connection with his administrative duties, Dr, Ouch- terlony auditions some 1500 young music students a year. He is also an active member of the Conservatory's organ facul- ty, and a prominent member of the Board of Examiners. Dr, Ouchterlony is organist and chairmaster at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church in Tor- onto, and is one of Canada's leading organ recitalists, He is also well known as a music critic. lecturer, and Music Festi- yal -adjudicator., - Cadet Inspection (Continued) The inspection party included Col, Paynter, Capt. Innis, re- presenting the Eastern Ontario District H.Q. and Mr. and Mrs. William Beare, representing the local school board, The local cadet corps was under the command of Cadet Major Grant Williams with second in command, Cadet Capt. John Hayes. After the inspection ceremony and - band demonstration the corps gave a number of demon- strations which included, First 'Aid, F.N. Rifles, Signals and girl's physical education. Penney, Kingston, of the Home Economics Branch, 'Ontario Department of Agricul- ture; Mrs, Garnet Francey, Board member of Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario and Miss Donna Stewart, Home Economist for York and Ontario Counties were guest speakers at Ontario South District Wo- men's Institute Annual Meet- ing, held in Brougham United Church on Thurs.,, May 26th. Members were welcomed by Mrs. W. Trolley of Brougham Branch, During the morning session reports were given by the Conveners of various Stand- ing Committees, followed by discussion groups under the leadership of these conveners, - During the lunch hour mem- bers had an opportunity to ex| amine --the- clothing --made by members at Short Courses tak- en during the year, Tweeds- muir Histories of several bran- ches were also on display. Following the lunch hour a |- Memorial Service, conducted by Brougham Branch was held in memory of nine members of the . District who had passed away during the past year. Minutes of the previous Dis- trict Annual were read by the assistant Sec'y Mrs. L. Parrot. Correspondence and several matters of business were dealt with by the President Mrs, M. Annis and Sec' y-Treas. Mrs. Wm, Heron. Members were reminded of the "Annual Picnic of Ontario North and South to be held at Birdseye Centre Park, Port Perry on July 12 at 12 noon. Mrs. Garnet Francey brought the members a report of fall and spring meetings of Prg¢vin- cial Board. Mrs. R. J. Penney dealt with the topic "Program Planning" bringing many mew ideas to.be used in future programs, Miss Donna Stewart told of the work done by the many 4-H Girl Clubs in Ontario County. Leaders and assistants of many of these clubs are institute mem- bers and several Clubs are spon-. sored by Branch Institutes. Mrs. G. Francey presided at the election of officers. Dairy Princess To Be Selected At Brooklin Fair _ The Ontario County "Dairy Princess Competition will be held at the Brooklin Spring Fair on Saturday, June 4th, at 3 p.m. The contestants are attractive young ladies, between the ages of 17 and 26, who reside on dairy farms in Ontario County. Each contestant will be re- quired to present, to the public a short talk related to Ontario County. The girls will be judged on- their appearance, deportment, poise, and self expression; as well as their abiilty to assemble' and sanitize a milking machine, milk a cow, disassemble the ma- chine and clean. and store the milking utensils.
