Bored and nauseated by all the pre-Christmas advertising? Are the carols jangling your nerves ? These questions shouldn't shock anyone. It's common to hear people associate the words sick, boredom, nausea and nerv- ousness with Christmas. What a pity that what should be the happiest festival in the world is all too often branded a night- mare. What is unfortunate, of course, is that the people who complain most about Christmas have lost touch with its mean- ing. They've given in to the sales pitches and all the hard work mothers and wives usu- ally go to for a few hours of what they dare to call "pleas- antness'" on Christmas Day. For a few weeks both before and after Christmas, they wish there was no such thing. But for a' fleeting hour or two on Decem- ber 25th, they try to rejoice. But how much can a person rejoice if he doesn't know why he's rejoicing? Some people make a sham of being happy Christmas Day simply because they think it's expected of them. Others truly rejoice because de- spite the hard-sell lines that characterize the season, they have been able to retain the meaning of Christmas.
