6 -- PORT PERRY STAR, Thursday, Dec. 16th, 1965 On behalf of our members we wish you all a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. Many thanks to all who have support- ed our Euchres in 1965. Shall be looking for you all in 1966. On Wednesday, Dec. 8th the annual Turkey Christmas dinner was held at the Masonic Hall, Port Perry Eighty-five sat down to enjoy this delicious dinner. "Bastern Star" ladies are to be congratulated. Every- thing to tempt ones appetite. Tables were beautifully decor- ated for the occasion and show- ed a work of art by Mrs. J. Robertson & helpers. Toast proposed by Mrs. Chap- man "The Queen". Then all participated in the goodies, Turkey dinner & ete. and the numerous kinds of pies. Mrs. Senior Citizens Club Chapman moved a vote of thanks (with great applause) & invited everyone, also the help- ers to join us at the Citizen's Hall for the evening, and "What a Party it was". Mrs. Stone was to be M.C. for program. Unfortunately Mr. Stone was confined to hospital and neither could attend. Our president very ably took her place. Mrs. F. Mitchell of Utica rendered two lovely solos, with Mrs. M. Crozier pianist), carols were sung heartily by all. Then Mrs. E. Webster gave two good readings and Mrs. Gibson re- cited a very appropriate poem. Mrs. T. Redman read a poem she composed, "The Folks of Our Club", which brought laughter, and also a piece en- titled "Husbands", We were also entertained by some good tap dancing by Mr. Baker and Mr. Perkins -- they danced as good as teenagers. We danced also to music (mouth organ) played by Mr. Baker and Mr. and Mrs. Gibson. At 9 p.m. in comes Scugog Orchestra, con- sisting of Mrs. Whitter as pian- ist, Mr. J. Burnham, violinist and Mr Everett Prentice as call- er--"What music", All oldsters just couldn't keep their feet still. Some hadn't danced for years, we tried anyway, even if we did make mistakes and don't think older folk can't square dance? Mrs, Wallace is South for winter, but she left a treat of chocolates, ete. After this evening of merry- making and fun we ended with Christmas cake and a cup of tea and gifts exchanged (Mrs. Webster as Santa Claus). LJ * * What We See Of Ourselves When you get what you want in your struggle for self, And the whole world makes you King for a day, Just go to the mirror and look at yourself, And see what that man has to say. You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years, And get pats on the back as you pass, But your final reward will be heartaches and tears, If you've cheated the man in the glass.
