The evening opened with God Save the Queen, play- ed by Lorraine Turner. The guests were welcomed by Mrs. Kyte and Mrs. Philip Romeril f said grace. An efficient kitchen staff of . fathers and sons served a deli- cious meal of barbecued chick- en, peas and carrots, potatoes and buttered rolls The meal was topped off with cake and ice-cream. Grey Owl Swain and Lieuten- " ant Marlowe led the Sing Song. Courtesy was offered to the kitchen staff for their excellent. service by Mrs. Roy McLaugh- lin. In her toast to the Guide Movement, Mrs. Arnold Taylor § paid tribute to the leaders who f > gave so freely of their time and talents. She closed by wishing : that each of them might live to | be one hundred and that the Guiding Movement might live on forever. Tawny Owl Hamil- ton thanked Mrs. Taylor and . said that they enjoyed their work. A toast to the mothers i by Judy Mountjoy expressed the girls' apreciation for their mothers' support. A fitting re- ply was made by Mrs. J. Law- rence. Brown Owl Turner and Captain Thompson gave reports on Brownie and Guide activities for the past year and plans for the coming one. Speaking for the parents' committee, Mrs. | Hudson thanked the group for support in the past and asked for continued support for this work. Service stars were pre- sented to the leaders by Mrs. Fred Hamilton. A highlight of the evening was the reports given by four Guides who attended camp out- side our community. Elizabeth Thompson travelled by train to British Columbia where she at- tended a Heritage Camp and met guides from all the prov- inces of Canada. Judy Swain took part in Ad- venture Camp at Doe Lake where the order of the day in- : cluded such vigorous activities as hiking, canoeing, gunnel bob- bing, and portaging. Extra cur- ricular activities consisted of raiding of other camp sites. Even a skunk got into the act . by raiding Judy's tent. At Lake 3 Huron, Sharon Larmer battled the elements, but came out the | victor and reported a glorious Few - 2 eT rrr * SFR experience, The Heritage Camp in Que- v bee, which Nancy Dorrell at- tended. was so new that trees had to be cut down to make way for the tents. Most memorable for Nancy will probably be the ; impromptu speech she was call- { ed upon to broadcast over Que- i bee radio just before leaving. Each of the four girls urged her fellow guiders to take advant- age of the opportunity to at- tend one of these camps should . the chance arise. i A film on the Arctic and a | Hercules cartoon changed the theme of the evening for a few Fooly ' Yoh 3 ) i SO ARTS ---------- a MAPLE WRAP IRIAN IEE SISTA CENT RC N JN minutes. { Norton and Judy Mountjoy.
