--- 10 PORT PERRY STAR, Thursday, Oct. 28th, 1965 Bill Harper Elected President Softball Association The second annual Port Perry and District Minor Softball Assoc. meeting was held on Sat. Oct. 16 at the Town Council Chambers. The meeting opened with the reading of the minutes of the Annual meeting last year. Pre- sident Don Cochrane welcomed the members present. He then gave his season's report, in which he mentioned the fine showing of the travelling teams which brought home four tour- nament trophies. The Lions club Bantams won the Zion Bantam tournament; the Hopes I.G.A. Pee Wees won the Con- solation Trophy at North York; the Legion Squirts won the Markham and East Gwillimbury Squirt Tournaments; while pre- sident Cochrane also had words of praise for the fine showing of the Juveniles (Tripps Const.) who enjoyed a fine season and many of the games here at Port Perry were real thrillers. He noted that in his year as Pre- sident of the association; the Of Minor first 0.A.S.A. Championship was won as our Legion Squirts had brought much honor to the Legion, Town of Port Perry and the Association. He also men- tioned the extra interest he had in his team as his two boys were members. In closing he thanked one and all for making this such an enjoyable and in- teresting year. President Cochrane received a standing ovation from the members in appreciation for a job well done. Treasurer Elmer Lee gave the treasurer's report which showed a balance of about one hundred dollars after final bills were paid. He asked Mr. Stan Bru- ton to give the auditors state- ment and Stan did a fine job of telling the members where the money was spent. He added that he found the books in good order. This proved to be an- other job well done by Elmer Lee. The secretary's report was given by Vin Walker as he ASEV A HE PRR NATE aR coals Abt - ~ Jets Ay stated that 885 boys and girls were registered to play softball in our association. He noted that there was 7 squirt; 6 Pee Wee; 3 Bantam; 1 Juvenile in boys; while in girls there was 2 Bantam girls and 8 Junior la- dies. The Sat. morning class for Tykes proved to be well re- ceived as 30 boys turned out. This made a total of 23 teams in our association. He thanked all the coaches, managers, umpires, sponsors & softball fans for making this fine softball season possible. He made several good recommendations for next year and the meeting gave him support on all . It was agreed to send a letter of thanks to Miss Lynn Short for the fine job of running the booth. Don Ashbridge moved a vote of thanks to the 1965 executive on the fine job they have done in providing softball for the youngsters in this area. Election of officers was the next item of business and a few surprises were in store as the top positions were changed as follows: President for 1966 went to Bill Harper; a man who is well known in softball and baseball around these parts. Having played for a good number of years; coaching and managing several teams and lately being one of our better umpires. Bill will no doubt bring with him much experience and softball knowledge with him and should do a good job. First Vice Pre- sident is Don Gray. the hard working and well liked coach of the Hopes IGA Pee Wees. Don has been a director the past two years and has proved one of the hardest workers in our associa- tion. Second Vice President went to Charlie Bourgeois; another one of the hard working group of softball men here in Port Perry, ; Charlie has been one of our're- gular umpires since the forming of our Association and has been well liked by all. The past year he was also coach of the Blue Devils in the Squirt House lea- gue and did a fine job with this young team.
