Rose Conducts First Service Chancel Window Dedicated By Bishop Hunt The Anglican Church of the Ascension of Port Perry on Sun- day, Oct. 3rd, marked two im- portant events in its life. The Rev. R. C- Rose was present for his first service as new Rector of the Parish and a new Chancel window was dedicated by the Rt. Rev. H, R. Hunt, Sufffagan Bishop of Toronto Bishop Hunt celebrated the Holy Communion and was assis- ted by the new Rector and the Rev. R. Mansfield who acted as the Bishop's Chaplain: Miss Lynn Foster was organist. Mr. Rose was the preacher, and in his remarks he thanked Miss Catharine Hyland, who donated the window in memory of her brother, the late Harry Howden Hyland and his wife Ethelwyn Hutchinson, thanks were also extended to all the craftsmen and Church Officers who had a part in modifying the Chancel and erecting the new window. But we still have very real tasks to do in this world. In his later days on earth Our Lord gave two important command- ments concerning the life of the Church. The first spoke of in- ternal discipline and worship, "Do this in remerbrance of me". Thus the Holy Communion as- sumes great importance as an act of the worshipping Church. Secondly/ we are commanded o "Go into all the world and preach Gospel" and this is the mission of the Church. Thus in the Anglican tradition there is the ministry of word and sacrament. (Continued on page 14) New Vocational Addition Approved For The Central Ontario County District High School Board has | now confirmed that approval has been received for a Voca- tional Addition to the Port Perry High School. The Boards architects, Barnett & Rieder, are now engaged in preparing the working drawings and it is expected they will be ready to call for tenders early in Nov- ember. The addition is necessary due to the overcrowded conditions now existing in Port Perry, and the Uxbridge School now hav- ing an enrolment of near ca- pacity. It was necessary to rent the Port Perry Baptist Church, and use lunch rooms and other substandard accom- modation to provide space for an enrolment of 500 students in Port Perry. At present 70 pupils from the Port Perry Area are attending the Uxbrid- ge Secondary School, The proposed Vocational Ad- dition will include 7 shops, 3 commercial roms, 2 laboratories, 12 classrooms, 1 agricultural greenhouse, library, cafeteria, High School single gymnasium and adminis- trative area. The propect will be financed jointly by the Federal and Pro- vincial Governments contribut- ing 76% towards the cost of the Vocational Areas and the Municipalities 26%. Those Areas not under the Technical Vocational agreement will be financed by the Municipalities and will be subject to Legisla- |B tive Grant. The Department of Education has estimated thé cost of this projeet to be $2,093,094.00, of which $325,200.00 is for furni- ture and equipment. At a later date details of the breakdown of costs will be made public, but. the unsettled construction market makes it difficult to forecast actual costs. The plans call for a two storey addition to be built to the North of the present school, with the shops and other areas on the West side. This addi- tion will require most of the present school grounds. To pro- vide an Athletic field the Board has purchased 71% acres of land West of Ottawa Street.
