Mr. Tommy Thomas, who has been active for over 20 years in public life, declined the nomina- tion to represent the New De- mocrats at the polls November 8th. Hospital Grant Ontario County Council ap- |: proved a grant to the Whitby |, General Hospital in the amount of $1,063,000. The decision was unopposed by council members. The subsidy from the county was based on a construction cost estimated at $20,000 per bed. This total cost could be subsidized by the federal and provincial governments to the tune of $8,000 per bed while the hospital board would be expect- ed to raise a total $3,000 per bed. These figures being cor- rect, the county council would then absorb an amount to a maximum of $9,000 per bed. County Council Clerk-treasurer W. G.
