President Mrs. Samells opened meeting with a poem onl Stewardship after the singing of a hymn and Lord's Prayer. Mrs. Duff read the Scripture passage from Luke 12 and Mrs. Carnaghan gave the Commen- tary. Mrs. Murray Byers con- ducted a very helpful question and answer period on Steward- ship. Attention was drawn to the item on last Sunday's Church Bulletin re Hong Kong Chung Chi College Chapel. Closed with hymn and Mizpah. After lunch and social time, all enjoyed viewing the flower garden. Nine members of the Dorcas Unit enjoyed the meeting at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Wright on Wednesday afternoon. Van Camp was hostess for the Esther Unit on Wednesday night when 10 mem- bers and one visitor attended. Leader Mrs, Bruce Mountjoy opened meeting with a poem-- "Giving Thanks". Scripture passage Psa. 139 also the medi- tation was read by several members, followed by prayer, offering "and dedication. Roll was called and calls made re- ported. This unit as well as the other two who met in the p.m. were pleased to accept the in- vitation to visit Trinity Bow- manville in September, An interesting discussion on married women working was held. A play for Sept. general meeting was rehearsed. Prayer was offered. Lunch brought a pleasant evening to a close. St. John's W.A. met in the Parish Hall June 17th with the President Mrs. H. Ashmore pre- siding. Mrs. Ashmore read the opening prayers and conducted the Devotional from the Gospel of St. Mark which was in keep- ing with the Trinity Season. Treas. gave a good financial report and the Dorcas Sec'y re- ported the gift of a quilt top from Mrs. R. Brown. Sunshine Committee reported on cards sent out. Plans were made for the bake sale at Caesarea with Mrs, Harry McLaughlin and Mrs, John Hamilton convening same. Rev. H. Newman, All Saints, Whitby, will be guest Speaker at St. John's Anniver- sary June 27th. Mrs. A, Carter who has been a valuable mem- ber of the W.A. and who is moving to Bowmanville was presented with Hymn and Pray- er Book. An interesting letter from Mrs. Henry Marsh was read telling some of the experi- ences of she and Bishop Marsh in the far north, Meeting closed with prayer followed by lunch and a social half hour. In the United Church Sunday morning there was a reception service when the following young persons united with the church-- Gail Bonnetta; Glenn Bonnetta; Guy Bonnetta; Rus- sel Carnaghan; Graham Duff; Brian Lee; Robert Swain; Di- anne Taylor; Barry Trewin. Rev. P. Romeril preached a very helpful sermon on the Journey of Life. A male quar- tette consisting of Messrs. Glenn Larmer; Richard Holden; Ralph Larmer and Ernest Swain sang "Lead Kindly Light", In St. John's Church, Mr. Lawrence McLaughlin. lay read- er, took charge of the service and Mr. George Wolfe ran a tape recording of another of Canon Ashmore's sermons. All are happy to see Canon Ashmore getting around follow- ing his illness. Next Sunday will be Anniversary Service with Rev, Harry Newman, All Saints, Whitby, guest speaker. On Saturday evening a party was held in 'the Recreation Centre when about 100 relatives and friends of Mr. Gary Henry met to honor him and his bride. Mr. and Mrs. Henry were mar- ried in Vancouvet and motored to his home community. Gary is a son of Mr, and Mrs. Mel- ville Henry, Oshawa. Shortly the Bride and groom will motor to White Horse, where he is a member of the army stationed there. Some of the Girl Guides, who 'have been studying for their astronomers badge, under the direction of Mr. Richard Holden went to the Dunlop Observatory at Richmond Hill to view the skies through the telescope, Saturday night. Mrs. Ford (nee Smith) South River, Newfoundland called on Wednesday and Mr. and Mrs, Vincent Archer, Bowmanville visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs, Wilbert Archer. . Mrs. W. W. Van Camp is visiting relatives at St. Joseph's Island. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bradburn and Mrs, Arvella Henry visite ed Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Bradburn, Toronto on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Mount- Belyea, Bronte, Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Sam- ells visited Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Pearce, Oakville on Sunday.
