Gibson and coun- cillor Bruce Beare attended the official opening of the New Fire Hall in Whitby Wednesday of last week. The Fire Brigade in Whitby is still of a volunteer nature, but due to the rapid growth of the town, the hall has been built to accommodate a permanent force in the future. Oshawa Police Seize Tickets in Two Raids A complaint from the Oshawa Ministerial Association hag triggered an investigation into , raffles, bingos, 50-50 draws and other 1 money-raising schemes in that city. Members of the Ontario Pro- vincial Police anti - gambling squad, assisted by Oshawa de- tectives, seized ticket stubs and records Friday afternoon at Royal Canadian Legion head- quarters and the Knights of Columbus Hall. Crown Attorney W. Bruce Affleck said he was obliged to act on the complaint and the investigation has been going on for some time now. He said evidence is being ga- thered to determine whether prosecutions are warranted and several "outlets" were checked. Mr. Affleck said lotteries are legal as long as the value of prizes is $50 or less. UCW Entertain Church Choir Last Thursday evening, May 27th, the United Church Women of Port Perry entertained the Choir and Sunday School teach- ers, in recognition of their ser- vices during the past year. A sumptuous buffet supper was provided and good fellow- ship was enjoyed with one an- other. All were very apprecia- tive for the thoughtfulness of the ladies who were responsible for the lovely meal. At the conclusion of the ban- | quet, the choir gathered in the | church for the usual prepara- tion for Sunday music. The next practises will have smaller at- tendance as the young people will be studying for those im- portant exams. We wish them well and thank them for their loyalty and regular attendance during the past year.
