14 = PORT PERRY STAR, By O. Hill Thirty-seven ladies attended the General U.C.W. meeting in the C. E. Centre Tuesday even- ing, April 27th when a Panel gave a very interesting and in- formative explaration of the use and purpose of the new curriculum. Mrs. Doug Sleep of Nestleton explained the Kinder- garten department and told how they dealt with it in Nestleton where there is little room for Sunday School classes. Miss Linda Kyte told how it is hand- led in Blackstock, where she is one of the teachers. Mrs. Lloyd Wright, Superintendant of Pri- mary, Kindergarten & Nursery dealt with the Primary Depart- ment and Mrs, P. Romeril with the Senior dept. This was fol- lowed by questions from inter- ested mothers and ably answer- ed by the Panel. The Worship period was con- ducted by the Candace unit and began with a new hymn "Oh Christ Wise Teaches, by the Sea". The Scripture of Peter's Denial and Forgiveness was given by all members of the Unit enacting "the different Thursday May 6th, 1965 Blackstock News characters and the Prayer was a Litany with responses. President Mrs, H. Kyte pre- sided and after thanking the Panel and Unit conducted the business. Several "doings" for May were announced as well as the School for Leaders Aug. | 9-12, The Esther Unit held a very successful sale of Baking, plants and shrubs. The Anna Unit served a dainty lunch and social time was enjoyed. The Women's Institute spon- sored a Copper Tooling class in the Community Hall Thursday and Friday which was very in- teresting to all who attended. Mrs. Smith of Toronfo was the instructress. Each lady made a brooch and a wall plaque. Glad to report Miss Norma Wotten home from Bowmanville hospital where she underwent surgery ,earlier in the week. Miss Sharon Larmer spent the week-end and Mr. and Mrs. Ralplr Larmer and boys were Sunday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs.. Harvey Yellowlees and family, Solina, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Terwille- gar and'Mr. Russel Spinks Osh- awa, visited Mrs. Ed, Darcy and Mrs, I. Argue Sunday. Dr. and Mrs. John Werry and Anne, Bowmanville, called on Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Werry and Roy on Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mahaffy, Grant and Neil visited the for- mer's brother and family Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mahaffy at St. Marys during the week-end. Mr. and Mrs, Orr Venning called on their brother-in-law Mr, Ralph Wood: in Lindsay Hospital Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Lucas were Sunday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Orr Venning. The char- tered plane with 140 passengers left Montreal Sunday evening. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Malcolm who were married in Florida recent- ly and arrived back in Cart- wright this past week.
