Haughlen's Bar-B-Q opened on Wednesday, March 24 with a record first night's attendance. A car crashed head-on into their veh- icle causing intense damage to the Doupe car. Family night for Cubs was held in Manchester Hall on Saturday evenng last. Some 50 badges were awarded, and Rev. C. C. Gilbert presented John with his "Religion and Life" badge. John was the only Cub 1 to receive this badge. Cub Mike Ives was also presented with 10 proficiency badges and his second star. Jim Smitherman and: Jack Holtby had successful farm sales on 23rd and 27th respectively, The U.C.W. are pleased with the patronage they received at their lunch-stand. They plan to repeat this service at Mr. Dearborn's Sale on Apr. 13th. Lloyd and Ruby Simth, Aldon Smith, Marion Webster, Sylvia Diamond and Barbara Holtby attended the Christian Educa- tion Conference, concerning the new curriculum for Sunday School, at Northminster United Church, Oshawa, 19th - 21st. Congratulations to pupils of Prospect school and their music teachers, also some High School students, who received high marks at Sunderland Music Festival last week. There were choruses, rythm band 2nd; Glen Eoltby 1st; Douglas Holtby 2nd; Kenneth Webster was winner of the County of Ontario Federation of Agriculture a- ward. Glen Holtby and Ken- neth Webster both played at the Star Festival Concert. on March 29th. Irwin Smith and Roger Holtby, vocal duet 2nd; also with high marks were Bruce Donovan & Irwin Smith, Susan Smitherman, Marie and Barbara Holtby, Anna Croxall and Muriel Gray. George Smith of Toronto University and Beverley Vernon of Queen's University were at their respective homes on a re- cent week-end, Mrs, Underwood of Uxbridge spent a few days, recently, with her daughter, Mrs. Tustin and husband. We are going to miss the Smitherman family from our community. They were very loyal citizens and active church members.
