Wotton, co-or- dirator of the Emergency Mea- sures Organization, came under attack at the Ontario County Council meeting held in Whitby. Reeve John Dryden said when the EMO 1965 budget came up for approval: "I have been led to believe that other countiés have lower EMO budgets. AVe have been led by Mr. Wotton to being one of the largest spend- ers on this organization, "I have been against EMO from the ground uP as we are being led up the garden path," Reeve Dryden stated. He said that the budget was not con- structive expenditure and would be: "money down the drain if any war broke out", "It is not my prerogative to decide whether or not the coun- try is defended," said Col. Wot- ton, "but it's. up to county council to defend the grass roots, and participate with the senior levels of government." He said that he understood in order to defend the country, defence must begin at the ci- vilian level. COST BREAKDOWN ASKED Reeve Dryden and Reeve Wil- fred Gould of Uxbridge later cure a breakdown of EMO ex- penditures by all counties in Ontario and circulate them to .ail councillors. The motion was passed by the council without opposition. Reeve Wilfred Gould noted the budget included $2,000 for staff travelling expenses. He stated that he thought the a- mount was excessive and moved that it be cut in half. The $38,400 budget was there- by reduced to $37,400 of which the provincial and federal gov- ernments pay 90 per cent. Council approved the buget without further comment. The remaining $3,704 is split two ways by the county and the City of Oshawa. Ontario County and Oshawa will each fork out $1,870 for EMO pur- poses for the year. asd Pu RED CROSS Your help does so much bn + BUSINESS DIRECTORY WANTED Dead Horses or and Crippled Cattle Highest Prices paid according to size and condition Phone Zenith 32800 NO TOLL OHARGE ED.
