It has been the general opinion that the season was very suc- cessful and necessary harvest accomplished. Eighteen Town- ships in the Oounties of Simcoe, York, Ontario and Dufferin were opened for a 3 day period early in November and 4 Town- ships--Baxter, south half of Wood in the District. of Mus- koka and Mara and Rama in Ontario County--for a 12 day period from November 2nd to 14th. , Excellent success was obtain- ed in most of the townships in- cluded with some variation. Al- though somewhat disappointing to some hunters hunting on the southeast side of Lake Simcoe, the open season will long be Temembered by mote fortunate ones in the Townships of Ves. pra, Innisfil and West Gwillim- bury where parties of 10 and 12 obtained 1009 success. The heaviest harvest in south and central parts of Simcoe County was welcomed, not only by hunters but, no doubt, also by vehicle drivers. Many deer- vehicle collisions have been re- ported- in this area in recent years, Hunter-farmer relationships, during the open season, ap- peared to be very favourable, Ford Expands Scholarships OAKVILLE, Ont.--Expansion of its Canadian Centennial Per- forming Arts Scholarships pro- gram for 1965 was announced here recently by Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited. " Ford of Canada president Karl E. Scott said that "as a result of the outstanding sue- cess of our introductory series of $10,000 in awards in 1964, we will increase the total a- mount of the program in 1965 to $15,000." The scholarships are directed to young Canadians between 14 and 26 years of age who study dancing, instrumental, drama and voice. The program is designated by Ford of Canada as the comp- any's special observance of Can- ada's 1967 Centennial. Good During Deer Season according to J. S. Dorland, Wildlife Management Officer at Maplé, who stated that the large influx, Township Coun- cils anticipated, of hunters from outside teh area, did not materialize. Less than 10% of the 1376 hunters checked by Conservation Officers, came from areas outside the town- ship or county in which hunting took place. A complete check of 76% of all the hunters con- tacted, indicates a harvest of 421 deer, working out to an average hunter succes of 30.6% It took 8.4 man days of hunt- ing to bag a deer. Mr. Dorland stated that a projection of these figures could indicate a poss- ible harvest of 600 deer during the open season.
