Inaugurate Cartwright Council, Board Of Education January 5th The joint Inaugural Meeting of the Cartwright municipal Council and the Cartwright Bd. of Education commenced before dinner on January bth, Tues- day with all members present: Reeve--Merrill Van Camp; De- puty Reeve--John R. Hamilton; Councillors--Wm. R. Ferguson, Ernest R. Swain & Gordon Get- tins. Board of Education--Dal- ton Dorrell, Walter Wright, David Wilson, Harvey Graham, Neil Malcolm and Donald Frew, along with Sec. Treasurer Mrs. Blaine Romeril, Twp. Clerk V. Malcolm and Rev, Canon Ash- more F.R.G.S. who after the . Declarations of Office had been ! taken gave a brief but interest- ing history of Cartwright and some of the early Councillors and their descendants. . After a short prayer, Reeve Merrill Van (Camp thanked Can- oft Ashmore for his interesting address and continued congra- tulating and welcoming the members of Council and the Bd. of Education back. Dalton Dorrell as B. of E. chairman also expressed his ap- preciation of the close relations 'between Council and the Board of Education and hoped that 'same would continue. All present then attended a chicken dinner at the Bonfire Bar-B-Q as guests of the Town- - ship. After dinner the Council returned to the Council cham- hers and the Board of Education to the Township Office for a short meeting. A brief discussion of some of the items of business introduced was tabled while a deputation of Messrs. Jack Neil, and Doug Frayer appeared before Council seeking winter employment. Council explained that no municipal employment was a- vailable at the present, as the regular employees were putting in time cutting brush and trim- ming trees. The Roads Superintendent ex- plained that regular employees needed to be kept employed and available in case of snow or ice temoval. The gentlemen pre- sent when advised that should a Winter Works Programme be initiated, that all employees would need be cleared through the National Employment Of- ice expressed their disapproval. free ot promised that if any work became available before ppring that they would be ad- vised. As time was getting late Council postponed making the balance of until later, Borrowing By-Law #1112 authorizing the borrowing of up to $60,000 during 1965 as re- quired was given three readings. PORT PERRY STAR, THURSDAY, JANUARY 14th, 1966--17 4H Homemaking Club Meeting On January 2, 1965 the first meeting of the Bethesda Reach 4-H girls club was held at the home of Mrs. IC. Ashenhurst. "What Shall I Wear", is topic of the new unit. The group discussion was on patterns and materials. We discussed whether to keep the name "Bethesda Bluebells" for this unit or whether to change it. It was decided that each member was to bring in a suggestion for a club name to the next meeting, which would be held at the home of Mrs. C. Ashenhurst, January 23rd at 2 o'clock.
