Again we extend our sym- pathies to a sorrowing family-- this time to the relatives of Mrs. Martha Couch who passed away in Strathaven Nursing Home, Bowmanville, on Wed., Jan. 4th. The late Mrs. Couch was Seagrave's oldest resident, being in her 97th year and she had lived here almost all her life. She herself was a mem- ber of a pioneer family. She was twice married into other pioneer families and her 7 children (4 daughters and 3 sons) all married residents of the district. A son and a daugh- ter predeceased her. Two of the family, Mrs. O. Boe and Mr. Wilbert Couch still live here. The funeral, held on Satur- day afternoon was conducted by Rev. E. McNeil. PERRY was a meeting between the Zion = Pleasant Pt. joint congregh- tion and the Little Britain - Vg- lenia charge, with some S grave members as onlooKers. It was a very hapnionious meeting and ended with a una- nimous vote to have the Zion - Pleasapt Pt. congregation amal- gamate with Little Britain and Valentia, making it a 3-point charge. This leaves Seagrave free to make an alliance with Greenbank. Arrangements are gradually being worked out but there is nothing official about it yet. In this connection it is inter- esting to note from old records that Pleasant Pt. (Zion is not mentioned until later), origin- ally belonged to Oakwood ecir- cuit. Back in 1876 it was join- ed with Seagrave and Shaws (Bethel). In 1889 they peti- tioned to join Little Britain where they remained until about 1911 - 12, when they rejoined Seagrave. Now it seems that in 1965 they will once more be back with Little Britain. Mr. Glenn Wanamaker last week made a search of the county records for the deed to Seagrave parsonage land. He found it dated 1870 under the village name Sonya. . Incident- ally the records showed a $400 mortgage against it which had never been discharged. Who remembers whether it was paid or not? 7 The U.C.W. executive met at the home of Mrs. B. Wanamaker on Tues. evening to make plans for 1965. The Jan. meeting was arranged and each woman ask- ed to contribute an article for a layette. A made that the U.C.W. Units be scrambled as recommended in the constitution. This caused considerable discussion (under satement for 1965), To be con- tinued. Mr, & Mrs. Ron Wanamaker, Port Perry, entertained the Me- Millan family and some friends, about 40 in all, at a belated Christmas party on Sat. even- ing.
