Mr. and Mrs. Harry Walters, of Winona were Sunday callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Ashton. Mrs. H. Doble spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Doble and family in Toronto. Mrs. Edgar Heron attended a W.M.S. Meeting at Arthur on Saturday, November 7th. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ashton sons Wayne and Allan spent Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Rogers in Bow- manville. Being in the field of educa- tion himself, Mr. Sweetman concluded with a few thoughts concerning the role of tthe school in today's world. Mr. Sweetman closed with a word of sincere congratulations and good wishes for the gra- duates of 1964, Programme The programme opened with Miss Barbara Holtby presiding at the piano for the Procession- al, School Song and O"Canada. Rev. David Harris of Green- bank led in prayer. Mr, Grant MacDonald, Prin- cipal of the school, welcomed all present and then called upon Mr. Raymond Fralick, Chair- man of the Central Ontario County District High School Board, who outlined the present position of both Port Perry and Uxbridge High Schools. Mr. Fralick stated that Port Perry High 'School is at its student capacity now and Uxbridge will be in the next two or three years. The Board has pur- chased more property and an addition to Port Perry High School is on the drawing board at the present time. that the land purchased should be sufficient to last for another 15 years. ---- Margaret Terrett and Terrance Boyd. The presentations were made last Fri- day evening at the Annial Commencement Exercises in the High School. --Staff Photo He said | Draper; A number of scholarships, bursaries and prizes were .a- warded with represenatives from the various organizations presenting them, assisted by teachers of the school. Edwin 'MecCaig became a member of the select group of Ontario Scholars by winning the Ontario Scholarship. Edwin also won the Board of Educa- tion Scholarship; a Universary Bursary of $500.00; a Univer- sity of Waterloo Tuition Scho- larship of $640.00 and the Stu- dents' Council Trophy. Terry Boyd and Margaret Terrett won the Royal Cana- dian Legion, Branch 419 Port Perry Scholarships of $250. each. Terry also won a $500. University Bursary along with William Diamond and George Smith. Margaret also won fhe $500. Canadian Trucking Asso- ciation Bursary. Other winners were: The I.0.D.E. Scholarship to William Holtby and the English prize to Linda Stone; the Honeydale W.I prizes to Catherine Ngj- son and Lois Summers; the Ladies' Auxiliary - of Branch 419, Royal Canadian Le ign Scholarship to (William Dia mond; the Dr, M. B. Dymond Scholarship to James Mae- Master; the Port Perry Lions' Club Scholarship to William the - William Aldred Memorial Trophy to Leslie [| Brown; the Griffen Trophy to Georgeen Burnett and Murray Coxall. Valedictory Miss Carol Morrow, who' is now attending Huron College of Western University, London, Ontario, was chosen as Valedic- torian for 1964. Carol, who was well at ease, proved that she was worthy of the honour bestowed upon her as this year's Valedictorian, Her address to her fellow stu- dents and the guests present was well prepared, and her de- livery excellent. (Carol was mot only speaking for herself but for all the 1964 graduates when she expressed appreciation to all the teachers for their pa- 1 tience - and encouragement; to 'all the parents for the faith they held: for them' and to all. those who devoted themselves to the achievement of 'their en- deavours throughout the last five years.
