C.W. met at the home of Mrs. Dalton Dorrell on Monday, Oct- ober 19th at 1 p.m., with nine members present . While the dessert lunch was being partaken the members discussed plans for the gener- al meeting. Minutes were read. Treasurers report given in which she reported a nice sum received from sale of candy on Friday night. There was some discussion 'on the "Film Quest- ion 7", The mission study on Brazil was introduced. Mrs. Romeril dealt with the Bible Study, chapter 1 of God and His- - Purpose. - Mrs. Gordon Strong gave the worship on Thanksgiving. Offering was re- ceived and dedicated and meet- ing closed with Benediction. The Anna unit met at the home of Mrs. Ed. Harris, Tues- day afternoon, October 20th, with 13 members and 2 children present. Hymn 500 was sung and the Lord's Prayer repeated in unison. Mrs, Murray Byers gave the devotional on "Christ- ian Gratitude. The mission study book on Brazil was intro- duced. The second chapter of God and His Purpose was read and Mrs. Skelding led the dis- cussion on it. During the busin- ess period a letter of thanks from Mrs. Russell Mountjoy was read. Meeting closed with benediction and lunch was ser- ved by the hostess and Mrs. Ross Duff. Nine members and two visit« ors attended the meeting of the Esther unit at the home of Mrs, Kenneth Lee on Tuesday, evening, October 20th. Mrs. Bruce Mountjoy opened the meeting with a prayer poem. Mrs. Stuart Dorrell conducted the worship period which con- sisted of a hymn. Scripture reading and meditation and prayer. The offering was ded- icated by Mrs. Richard Van- Camp who also introduced Mrs. Kan who had arrived at the meeting dressed in a Sari, and she gave a most interesting talk on Trinidad, her husband's native land, Mrs. Kan also dis- played many things from Trin- idad. Mrs. Richard VanCamp closed the meeting. During the lunch hour music from Trini dad was played on the record player, Mrs. Joe Bradburn was host- ess for the Dorcas unit on Wednesday afternoon when 8 members and 3 visitors attend- ed. Mrs. Walter Wright opened the meeting with a poem, " Let us Worship". Hymn 15 was sung followed by prayer. The scripture reading, meditation on "Grace and prayer. Mrs. Romeril dealt with the Study of God and His Punpose in a very helpful and interesting manner. Mrs. Stanford. Van Camp read a letter from Miss Doreen Van Camp, Indore. Business at all units dealt with the question of legalizing lotteries of which none are in favor. Discussion re the gen- eral meeting which has to be changed to Nov. 8rd. Meeting of Dorcas closed with a hymn and prayer. Lovely lunch was served by hostess. Approximately 125 attended the Durham Co-op Medical Ser- vice Banquet in Blackstock Re- creation Centre. When all had their places, the Queen was sung and a toast to the Queen drank. A delicious roast beef dinner served by Blackstock Women's Institute was then partaken of. Mr. Lawrence Staples, Lif- ford was chairman, Commun- ity singing, with Mrs. Dorie Wilson at the piano, commen- ced the evening's programme. Mitzie Malcolm, Pamela Stin- son, Adele Page and Candy Malcolm entertained with tap dancing. After a few remarks the chairman introduced the guest speaker -- Rev. M. Buttars of Pickering, who gave a very in- tereting address on "What I have Learned from Visiting the Sick". Janice Stacey sang three numbers and she was accom- panied by her sister Carol. During the evening three lucky draws for capons were won by Mrs. George Cole, Port Hope; Mrs. Jack Wilson, Yel- verton; and Mrs. Ernest Stap- les, Fleetwood. There also were several consolation prizes won. The election of officer resulted as follows: Retiring Directors -- George Cobourg, New Directors--Clif- ford McElroy, Port Hope; Ger- ald Sheckelton, Darlington; Ray Stuart, Cavan; Edgar Buttar, Cold Springs for another three years. Mrs. Dalton Dorrell spent Wednesday - Saturday in Tor- onto attending the Federation of Agriculture convention. Black, Lindsay; and Bill Moore, Mrs. June Cowling and Roy are visiting her parents Mr. & Mrs. Roy Whitfield, St. Cath- erines, Ten ladie sfrom here attend- ed the Dessert luncheon in Co- lumbus on Thursday and report a very pleasant afternoon. A good number went to Cad- mus turkey supper Wednesday even tho there was about two inches of snow fell that even- ing and roads were slippery. The Anglican chicken pie supper Friday evening followed by the film -- "On the Farm" was well attended and consid- ered very successful. Several from here attended Nestleton anniversary Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Melville Sam- ells and family, Bowmanville, were Sunday guests of Mr, and Mrs. Kenneth Samells. Mrs. George Wolfe spent Thursday night with Dr. R. M, and Mrs, Werry and attended teachers convention Friday in Kingston.
