ta, ea to Lei] of 4 Big ae op SER SY NO al The PAN SCUGOG NEWS Having dispensed with all ac- tivity during the summer, the Head U.C.W. began their Fall term by meeting at the home of Mrs. Joe Dowson on the even- ing of Sept. 2nd. Seventeen ladies, including Mrs. Reta Rod- man and her sister Mrs. Tra- vell from Oshawa, were pre- sent. Following the opening of the meeting, the president, Mrs. Jim Wilson called upon Mrs, Laverne Martyn to lead the study period. As fresh inter- est has been roused in "The World and the Way" since ad- opting the new curriculum, L Dorothy chose the first chap- ter, "What is religion?" After her reading, we were divided into 3 groups for Scripture reading and questions for dis- cussion on its application. It was decided to continue this study next month, The Roll Call requesting a Canadian place of interest to tourists covered Canada from West to East and called to mind places we had personally enjoyed or would like to visit. Believe it or not Niagara Falls was mentioned last. Dorothy then presented a Memory Contest when she ap- peared in complete costume & accessories and then disappear- ed and requested us to record her entire ensemble. Mrs. Nelson Reader had clip- ped an article from an earlier Port Perry Star -- "A Gentle- man, A Canadian". Tho' many of us had missed this item, we were glad to have it brought to our attention as we heartily agreed with its sentiments and were pleased to have patrotic Canadians express their views publicly. During the business period, we were reminded to turn in our Thanksgiving Sock in Oct. ($1.26). It was decided to ask Mr. Ronald to present an even- ing of pictures including Japan BUSINESS DIRECTORY MONUMENTS MARKERS RIMAR MEMORIALS Phone : 723-1002 152 Simcoe South, OSHAWA Aug. 27/64 Ey =jy= Well Drilling PERCY BUCK RR. 1 Omemee 799-5513 July 9, 1964 TEACHING PIANO 'EDITH PLATFORD, A.T.C.M. In discussion of summer va- cations it was learned that many of our families enjoy a camping period for relaxation, unity and privacy as well as the appreciation of our lovely countryside... Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Clark and 4 of their daughters spent a week thus at Washago. Mr. and Mrs. John Pearce and their 38 children ac- companied by Beryl's cousin, Ruth Apperly of England and Beryl's mother, father and sis- ter spent a week end tenting in Algonquin Park. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Heayn & 2 little daughters spent a week end in Haliburton with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Barry. Mr. and Mrs. Orval Heayn & & boys also enjoy the Haliburton area and spent a recent week end there visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Mar- tyn enjoyed a visit from Fred- ericton, N.B. when Dorothy's brother Mr. M. Williams and his wife and daughter travell- ed to Scugog and Port Perry. On Sunday 'Mrs. Reta Rod- man travelled North to pick up her friend Mrs. "Elva Eprouie (a former teacher at the Foot). They attended church service in Bobcaygeon and had lunch with Rev. and Mrs. Braham. Later they also had the privi- lege of a visit with Mrs. Bick. Mr. Braham is recovering from an illness of pneumonia. All convey concern and wishes for his complete restoration to good health. The boys' baseball team is upholding the honour of the Is- land by winning so far, 2 of the final games against B. William's team of Port Perry. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Red- man and boys are enjoying some holidays at a cottage at Stevenson's Point. Last week Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Carter with Gary and Ann accompanied by Marion's sister, Dorita Trew and niece, Marion Best visited the Guide Camp at Camp Adelaide. When they arrive home, Dr. and Mrs. Best of Burlington were wait- ing. Now the Guides are home and report that the weather could pave been better but the food was supberb. This, they prove on the scales. A site on the farm of the Carter Bros. has been approved as a local camping ground for week-end outings by local Guides.
