Catholic Women's League The last monthly meeting of the C.W.L. before the summer "recess" was held on Tuesday, June 2nd in the Parish Hall of | Immaculate Conception Church with an attendance of eighteen members and Father Reuser as Spiritual Director. Father Reu- ser reminded members that June is the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart, the Feast be- ing celebrated on Friday June bth. This Devotion began in France at the Visitation Con- vent of Paray-I.e-Monial with St. Margaret Mary Alocoque who was vouchsafed a vision of Our Lord's heart glowing and burning like a fire for love of mankind. Though designed and ill-treated by the other Sisters, she was befriended by Blessed Claude de la Columbiéve and eventually the Devotion spread over the entire world. The Or- der of the Sacred Heart was instituted and is dedicated par- ticularly to reparation for sin. Love is desperately needed to- day for love is the only antidote for the sickness of Society. The minutes of the last meet- ing were read by Mrs. Amell in the absence of Mrs. Kroes and Mrs. Geer gave the Treasurer's report. Mrs. Amell also read "Thank-you" notes from Mrs. Kroes and Mrs. Mumford, Mrs. Franssen, Mrs. Schill- ings, Mrs. Moase and Mrs. Naples volunteered to help sell tickets for the Hospital Auxi- liary Draw. Pres. Mrs. Whitfield reported that engraved pen and pencil sets had been presented to the Altar boys ih appreciation of their services. She also thanked all members who co-operated to make the Lilac Tea such a success, Ten- tative plans were discussed for the Bazaar in the Fall. The Brothers of St. John's Training School in Uxbridge are holding a dinner in honour of Father Marynen and in celebra- tion of his birthday on June 21. All parishioners are cordially invited and a film will be shown to those children for whom no baby sitters can be found. It was decided to hold the first meeting in September at the Flamingo Restaurant. All members brought a dish towel as the supply was running low. After Father Reuser had given his blessing, a delicious lunch was served by Mrs. Con- lin and Mrs. Amell and a Social hour enjoyed by all.
