WIDE POSSIBILITIES FOR SEED POTATOES An additional 2000 acres of seed potatoes could be grown to advantage according to the Ont- ario Department of Agriculture. This would represent more than three times the acreage of seed potatoes grown in Ontario in 1963. Seed potatoes can be sold to commercial growers who supply the fresh and processed trade. According to reports reaching 'the Department of Agriculture one County alone uses around one quarter of a million dollars worth of seed and Ontario grown seed has given excellent results, comparing most favor- ably for vigor and freedom from disease, with seed from any other source. Varieties most in demand are Irish Cob- bler, Cherokee, Sebago, and Kennebec. Potato growers who plant Foundation grade seed potatoes would be well advised to take advantage of free field inspec- tion service for seed. A mini- mom of one acre is required, and there is no maximum. Further particulars may be secured from Agricultural Rep- resentatives in each County and district, or from the nearest Branch of the Department of Agriculture.
