TE Communion Service At church on Sunday our minister Rev. ' conducted an impressive Com- munion Service. His assistants were elders, Messrs. F. Vickery, E. Martyn, B. Snelgrove, and G. Hunter. The choir anthem was most | enjoyable and seasonable. y The following young people were received into church mem- bership--B. Pugh, L. Hope, J. Martyn, R. Holtby, son, 'and G. Williamson. Offering was gathered by B. Martyn 'and D. Beacock.. Afternoon U.C.W. The. weather was bright last Wednesday afternoon when the U.C.W. held their annual St. Patrick Dessert Luncheon. The church parlours formed a typ- ical Irish setting comprised of ° green streamers, shamrock and black hats. ' It was most gratifying to note the. pleasant faces from far and near. The food table was adorned with a shamrock plant and can- dle arrangement. The many guests of near one hundred filed by the table picking up their favourite desserts, a quantity of sweets were even tinted with green. During the sipping of tea and coffee the president, Mrs. H. Hodgins extended a message of welcome to all. A brief sing-song consisting of Irish numbers followed by Mrs. B. Snelgrove and Mrs. G. Hunter who rendered a snappy piano duet. The last pleasant feature of .the afternoon when Mrs. Woods of Eleanor's Florist, pleasingly explained and illustrated sever- al dainty floral arrangements: which were later awarded to Mrs. E. Stanton, Mrs. B. Small- man and Mrs. E. Prentice. - Mrs. George Skerratt proved to be the winner of the U.C.W. prize. Mrs. B. Smith presented a momento to Eleanore as an ex- tra thank-you for the. new wrinkles in working with flowers. In fact a hearty "thanks" to all the busy hpusewives who took time off to be present. Evening U.C.W. : Thursday evening the March meeting of U.C.W. was held in the church basement. : The well-arranged ° devotion in keeping with the approach .of Easter was given by Mrs. E. Treasurer, Mrs. Jewell re- ported on finances and learned the Tea the day previous was successful. Quilting bee is again on the agenda. A bale of either sum- mer or winter clothing to be packed. Mrs. L. Beacock having at- tended the Hospital Auxiliary Meeting, reported on same. Shortage of dishes, therefore kitchen committee are free to purchase an extra supply. Mizpah Benediction closed the meeting. Dainty lunch was served by Mrs. E. Martyn, Mrs. Hope and Mrs. Chambers. Mr. and Mrs. E. Jewell att- ended the funeral of his uncle, Mr. Will of Sunderland on Saturday. Brenda Lake, of Oakwood spent Saturday with her grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Mar- tyn. Mr. and Mrs. B. Wanamaker accompanied Mr. and Mrs. L. Beacock as Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Lowery in Orono. Mrs. H. Ogden, Oshawa spent the majority of the winter with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pearce. Recent company with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pearce were the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Stein- hoff and family, Etobicoke, Mrs Mary Tetlow, Port Perry, Mrs. Harrison, 'Miss Butson, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Boyd all of Oshawa and Mr. and Mrs. E. Larmer of Blackstock. : We welcome home Mr. and Mrs. Sam (Ed) Oyler who have Florida. They also met their nephew, Mr. Chris Dormer of England who was holidaying for three weks.
