Under the category of "Com- | munications" the teacher, Mrs. the printing offices of the Port Perry Star and the pupils were given a first-hand look at the machines, Offset Press, Hand-setting of type and paper cutters were demon- strated to the interested stu- dents. When printer Archie Farmer operated the large Op- timus Press to show how the newspapers were produced, one small boy remarked "Boy, oh boy, is that ever neat!" It is thought the high Operator's seat was more to his liking than the actual rumble of the big press. . Much interest was shown in the old-fashioned hand-cut woo- den type faces which have been in the Port Perry Star printing plant for fifty years or more, | Each indivdual letter, in vari- ous sizes, was admired by the students and they expressed ad- miration for the fact that each piece had been hand carved. At the conclusion of the visit, each pupil received a metal slug with his or her name on it, cut by the linotype operator, Mr. Bruce Beare. In addition, each visitor was handed a cratch pad as a memento of their first visit to a printing plant. The students then proceeded to Peel's Poultry Farms for further industrial observations.
