Curriculum For United Church A new Sunday School curri- culum for The United Church of Canada was outlined, to ministers and deaconesses of Cobourg and Oshawa preby- teries, at a meeting in Bowman- iy on Tuesday, November the 12th. The chairman of the meeting, Rev. E. C, Woodland of New- ~ castle introduced three speak- ers. Dr. C. H. Dickinson of The United Church Publishing House spoke about the exten- sive study and work which has been involved. Books are at- tractive and relevant to the needs of all age-levels. The curriculum has been tested in both large and small schools. A Christian Educa- tion director from Peterbor- 'ough, Mrs. Gilmour 'Smith told how it was received enthusias- tically by her congregation, Rev. J. M. Wilkies of Deer Park United Church,_Toronto, an author of one of the books expressed the desirability of lessons being pertinent to our time. Through the new curri- culum he believes his denomina- tion will be providing material, which will meet this need. Portions of the curriculum are being used alreadyy. All books for the full curriculum however, will be available be- fore September of 1964. Each presbytery has consult- |} ants, who are willing to explain the curriclum to local churches. Sample kits also will be sup-= 4 plied next January on request to the publisher. The meeting was opened in regular form with the guidance of their leader, Brown Owl Mrs Barry Howey and her assist- ants, Packies Lynne Beare and Linda Heayn. Five Tweenies were enrolled into Brownies in a most im- pressive ceremony, namely Mi- riam Christie; Debbie Dyke; Elsie Hofstee; Margaret Oster- lo and Sandra Tristram. Each Tweenie was presented to Pac- kie Lynne Beare by their Sixer and led down through the vari- ous shoes, denoting the eight steps which had to be taken to enter into the Brownie Pack. These were the Motto; Law; Grand Howl; Promise; Braid- ing; Smile and Good Turn; Wash Dishes and the tying of the Tie. After the completion of travelling down through the centre of the Horseshoe to the leader, Brown Owl, each Twee- obligations and were presented with the necessary equipment to become full-fledged Brown- ies.
