Flyers Win Opening Game 5 - 0 2 Penalties Called By Referee Port Perry Flyers got off to a flying start in their opening game of the Junior circuit when they downed the Orangeville Tel Stars 5-0 last Monday evening at the Port Perry Arena. Both clubs showed consider- able speed in all three periods "with the Flyers having a slight edge in the play and also in the penalty department. Jim Bue- chler put Port on the scoreboard 'at 12.02 of the first period when he took a pass from George Ball and beat goalie Roach, who had no chance on making a! save. The' Flyers were hitting hard right from the start and picked up b of the 9 penalties in the first period. Referee Bev. Graham clamped down right at the start but. in spite of this both teams visited the penalty "box frequently. In the second period the teams settled down somewhat and the play was even throughout the period. Both teams had ex- cellent chances to score but both goalies were on the job, and made some outstanding saves. Six penalties were _ handed out with each club. pick-. majors | ing up three. Four were handed out for fighting, with Buechler, Bagnell, Powell and Langdon visiting the sin bin, Orangeville came out strong in the early stages of the third 'period but were set back when Thompson put the Flyers two up at 4.12 on a combination from Johnston and Bradley. Dale McNenley made it 3-0 for Port when he scored unassisted at 6.18. "From this point on the play began to roughen and Re- feree Graham handed out eleven penalties before the final whis- tle, 9 minors, 2 majors and al: misconduct (automatic). Or- angeville had numerous oppor- tunities to score, but superb netminding by Roger Stephens in the Port net kept them off the scoring list. George Ball and Bob Lee were the other two marksmen for Port Perry. Port Perry-- Goal, Stephens; Gibson, Pow- ell, W. MacMillan, Lee, Buech- ler, Ball, Irvine, J.
