Scripture reading and prayers were led by Mrs, Harry Mec- Laughlin. Minutes read and approved and treas, report and Corr. Sec'y re- port of thank-you notes were given, Miss Eva Parr gave the Dorcas re- port and gave a list of articles re- quested for the bale for Old Sons In- dian School. Various members offer- ed articles for the bale. Annual re- ports were heard from the Education- al Sec'y, Recording Sec'y and J. A. leader. Mrs. Scott asked that a new auditor be named to take her place and Mrs. C. Smith was appointed. Mrs. Ashmore gave a very inter- esting report of clothing worn at vari- ous church schools. Clothing sent in the bales are issued on a stock room basis rather than a personal basis, Roll was called and membership fees paid. Mrs. Scott reported the vestry meeting will be at St. John's Church, Jan, 23rd and Womens' World Day of Prayer. at the United Church, on Feb. 17th. A motion was carried to have Mrs. F. C. Young, Toronto show study slides at the regular April meeting. There was some discussion on ways of replenishing funds. Plans for a sup- per was post-poned until after Easter. Miss Parr, Mrs. C. Smith and Mrs, McArthur were appointed a Com mittee to replenish material for Ba- Mrs. Ashmore will be hostess for the Chancel Committee at the 'Rectory. Offering was taken, and Mrs. Scott closed the meeting with Frayer. At a recent Euchre par ty sponsored by the L.O.B.A. prizes were won by Cora' Crozier, George Crozier and the 'lucky prize was won by Mrs, Dorothy Lee. About twenty pupils and ex-pupils of the local high school enjoyed a skating party at Milbrook Friday night sponsored by the Tri-school of Millbrook, Orono and Blackstock. Ai- leen VanCamp and Sylvia Kozub were prize winners and all enjoyed-yefresh- 'ments, Ar Six- student "teachers from "Peter boro College of Education were re- cent guest teachers at Cartwright Public School for a week. One of the Professors from the College was also a guest, Thursday evening was teacher-par- ent evening at the local Public School with a large number of parents tak- ing advartage of the opportunity of interviewing their children's teacher. They had the pleasure of seeing the children's work which was on display, while waiting for an interview, All enjoyed a cup of coffee. 3 Friends are sorry to learn.that Mrs. Clarence Marlow is a patient in Osh- awa Hospital and Linda Brown has been in Port Perry Hospital for the past week. Glad to report Mrs. Roy Taylor progressing favorably in St. Michael's Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Melville Bradburn, Saskatoon, were Monday and Tuesday night guests of Mr. and Mrs, Leith Byers. Sunday callers with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Strong and family in honour of Beverley Anne Sinclair's 1st birth- day were Mrs, Alice Sinclair, Mr, and Mrs. Alex Sinclair, Oshawa, Mr. and Murs. Obituary- MABLE GERTRUDE BYERS On Saturday, Jan, 14, 1961 the death occured at her home in Bow- manville of Mable Gertrude Byers, wife of Mr. Rupert Byers. Gértrude Byers was the daughter of the late Louis' Graham and Elizabeth Larmer and was born in Cavan Twp, later moving with her family to Cartwright Twp., living on the first concession until her marriage in Blackstock to Rupert Byers in Feb., 1912, They farmed in Cartwright until they retired, living in Blackstock for a year before moving to Bowmanville, She was a member of Blackstock United Church and W.I., later trans- ferring her membership to Trinity United Church, Bowmanville, where she was active in Womens organiza- tions in church and community. The funeral service in Northcott & Smith funeral chapel, Bowmanville was in charge of her pastor Rev. Houslander with interment in the Union Cemetery in 'Cartwright Twp. She is survived by five brothers and one sister, Mrs. Fred Gibson (Edna) Toronto, Leslie, Milbrook; Charley, Oscar and Mervyn, Cartwright Twp. and Clarence of Port Perry. One brother Harry predeceased her. 'Pallbearers were: Murray Byers, Herb Swain, Bert Wanamaker, Cecil Gibson, Ross Duff and Roy Graham. There were many floral tributes, including those from Orangé Lodge, Bowmanville Senate, Church, neigh- bours and Womens Club. Friends were present from Toronto, Meaford, St. Catharines, Cobourg, Fort Hope, Oshawa, Seagrave, Lind- say, Port Perry and local points.
